" We're all in this together. We make each other strong!
Being there for each other, is where we all belong! "

Dear Southern Door Community,
We know you are doing your best, coping with this unusual time and keeping your children and family safe and focused at home. In addition to teaching your kids to sing “Happy Birthday” or some other song for at least 20 seconds while washing their hands, trying to make meals, washing clothes, feeding the dog, paying bills, and cleaning the house, we are now asking you to oversee “remote learning” starting Monday. I can tell you that for us, this is a surreal time as well. We already miss our students being on campus and our ability to connect with their enthusiasm and their energy on a daily basis in our schools.

When faced with this change in the way we deliver instruction, our wonderful Southern Door staff pulled together to ensure that our students would be able to continue to learn at home. Our district leadership team spent many hours last weekend, coming up with solutions to many issues we have never faced before. I have never been prouder of our staff and the caring and concern they continue to show for all of our students and families. In just a few short days, they spent many hours and efforts not only planning alternative educational opportunities for students but learning how to deliver instruction in a very different way. We are truly fortunate to have such a dedicated and talented staff!   A special thank you also goes out to all the staff and community volunteers who helped organize elementary learning packs, address secondary technology needs, and ensure that families have necessary supplies.

As a district, we are constantly working to figure out ways to support you and your family.
--Monday begins our meal distribution program for any Southern Door family with children 18 years of age and younger. See the Upcoming Events section for more details. If a family has not registered, they can still participate.
--We have partnered with the Door County Food Cooperative to have evening meals available for all those who need, served here at the district. This program starts Monday, March 30th. More details to come!
--The Door County Fire Chiefs Association has information in this newsletter about how you can get assistance and how you can help others.
--There is also information in this newsletter from United Way of Door County with how to access information if you need it.

As we continue to move through these uncharted waters, we know that you have questions. We are trying to get answers for you. All of our communications, resources, and contact information are on the Remote Learning tab on the district’s website.

Everyone is doing an awesome job as we adjust to this “new normal!”  Take care of yourselves, be safe, and stay healthy! If we all follow the guidelines and restrictions that have been given to us, we’ll get through this together. Our Southern Door community always takes care of each other and that is why we are Eagle Strong!

Maple Syrup Time! On a sunny and breezy March 16th, Southern Door community members and High School students volunteered their time and talents to conduct the annual maple sap boil at the SD Sugar Shack for all Elementary students and teachers.

5th grade students spent two weeks tapping and collecting. SD High School Students from Ms Ann Glowacki’s Forestry Class provided demonstrations of tapping and collecting sap from a maple tree the entire day. The boil was supervised by Terry Vogel with help from Jim Marin.

After visiting the boil, classes were able to visit the Nature Center, where they were greeted by volunteers Mike Toneys and Bruce Kokko.
POPS CONCERT AUDIO

The high school music department did not let the cancellation of their concert affect their desire to showcase what they had planned.

Please click on this l ink to listen to an audio of several of the selections that they had planned to perform. We hope that you will enjoy the music as much as we have.
CLAFLIN GETS ALL STAR NOD!
Southern Door's Ryan Claflin will see his high school career extended by at least one more game this summer. The UWGB recruit and Packerland Player of the Year was selected to the Division 4 All Star-Game, playing for the white team. Claflin averaged over 22 points a game during his senior campaign. The Wisconsin Basketball Coaches Association hosts the All-Star Game every year from the Children's Hospital of Wisconsin.

As part of this All-Star game, players are fundraising for the MAC fund (Midwest Athletes against Childhood Cancer). If you are interested in supporting Ryan and this cause, please click on this link
