BSD UPDATE
Planning for Fall:
The Bellevue School District is continuing to solidify our plans for fall. This planning includes our learning community. One way to participate is to take our survey.
- Take the survey! We invite you to take this survey to help us make important decisions in how we plan for our return to school this fall. Click here to take the survey.
- Listen in on Fall Planning. The Bellevue School District has been organizing a fall planning team including a Steering Committee that will be tasked with providing ongoing feedback to the implementation team and ensuring the plan satisfies the Board’s commitment to our students and community. The committee will be holding its first virtual meeting on Wednesday, June 17, from 2:00–4:00 PM. Join us via Microsoft Teams.
P-EBT, or Pandemic EBT Emergency School Meals Program:
Because of COVID-19, families qualifying for free or reduced priced meals for their children can apply for assistance buying groceries. Apply for P-EBT by August 31 at
www.WashingtonConnection.org
or call 877-501-2233. To be eligible for P-EBT, families must be approved for free or reduced priced school meals by June 30. To complete an application for school meal benefits, go to
www.bsd405.org/freeandreduced
.
Use of School Grounds for Recreation
:
As we enter the summer months, we know many students and community members would like to use our recreation facilities. Effective immediately, we will be reopening our tennis and pickleball courts to the public, in line with Department of Health guidelines. Signs are posted at each facility explaining the physical distancing expectations. The courts at International and Tyee will not be open to the general public until Monday, June 22. Our fields, basketball courts, and playgrounds will remain closed until King County enters Phase 2, at which time we will begin allowing groups of 5 or less, following the
Safe Start guidelines
.
Congratulations #BSD2020grads!
We want to celebrate you! Share your graduation photos with us using #BSD2020grads on social media or email photos to
communityrelations@bsd405.org
for us to share on our website and social media platforms.

2020 HIGH SCHOOL SUMMER PROGRAMMING
The health and safety of our students, staff, and community continue to be of paramount concern to the Bellevue School District. We anticipate the need to maintain some level of physical distancing over the summer. For this reason, our summer programs will be limited and provided remotely. The primary focus of a
ny offerings
will be on preparing students for advancements to the next grade level, course offering, or journey after school life.
What is the focus of the Bellevue School District’s Summer Programs this year for High School Students?
Due to the impact on learning by Covid-19, summer learning will have the following focus:
- To ensure that Class of 2020 Seniors Graduate. Our district has made a commitment to support seniors in meeting the requirements to graduate.
- To support High School Students with Completion of Semester 2 Courses from Spring 2020. We are creating a process for current BSD students to complete specific high school courses required for graduation for which they received an “I” for “incomplete” for Semester 2. The 2020 Summer High School Course Completion Program will run June 22–July 2, 2020.
- To support Credit Recovery for High School Students. We are prioritizing the High School Summer Program offerings to allow current BSD students to retake specific courses required for graduation if they have previously received an “F”, “NC” or “W” for that course. The 2020 Summer High School Credit Recovery Program will run July 7–31, 2020.

NOMINATIONS FOR ISPTSA BOARD MEMBERS TO BE TAKEN AT GENERAL ELECTION MEETING, JUNE 18
Over the last month or so, we have been asking for nominations for next year's ISPTSA board members. We have had a few people step up, however a large majority of our positions are still open due to many of our members fulfilling their two-year commitment. With all that is going on in our world today, thinking of the ISPTSA may not be at the top of your thinking, but we plan to continue on next year.
We currently have four positions open. Normally, we don’t have many problems filling positions, as our PTSA does a lot for the school and its teachers, staff, and students, all of whom recognize our importance. In light of the circumstances, we will take nominations for open positions and co-positions from the floor at our General Election Meeting on Thursday, June 18. Those who have been ISPTSA members for fifteen days prior to the election can self-declare candidacy to the president either by email or from the floor during our meeting.

DÉJEUNER EN _______ 2020
THIS WEEK!
One of the great traditions at International School is our annual
Déjeuner en Blanc
(Lunch in White) picnic and field day. The
Dîner en Blanc
concept began in Paris in 1988 when Frenchman François Pasquier invited a group of friends to an elegant outdoor dinner at the Bois de Boulogne, asking them to dress in white so they could find each other.
Dîner en Blanc
has grown to become a worldwide event spanning six continents and eighty-five countries in which people, dressed all in white, gather at an iconic urban location and enjoy a meal together. Diners provide their own food, tables, chairs and tablecloths.
At International School, we celebrate by ending classes two hours early so that students can set up and enjoy their picnic with friends and staff on our lower sports field. The upper field is used for games and activities, such as face painting, sidewalk chalk drawing, carnival games, and an impressive, ever-popular water balloon launcher! In the past, students were asked to plan their own picnics with friends and wear as much white clothing as possible.
Even though we won’t be able to gather in our usual way, on behalf of the French Department, we would like to invite the entire IS community—students, staff, and family members—to
join us for virtual picnics
, with a of couple changes.
This year, instead of
Déjeuner en Blanc
, we’ll be celebrating
Déjeuner en _______
(blank),
because students can choose their own themes, such as another color to wear or something entirely different. Have fun with it and remember to keep it appropriate for school. This is an optional event and no attendance will be taken, but we encourage as much of our community as possible to connect with one another and “join” us in celebrating this tradition at any time during the week.
*** To be abundantly clear, we would like out picnickers to meet their friends on Teams, meaning that
students will not be meeting each other in person
. ***
What:
You organize a virtual picnic or picnics & create your own theme.
When:
June 15 – 19. You can participate any day or days that you’d like.
Who:
You and your IS friends and/or family members.
Where:
On Teams and wherever it is that you’re eating.
Why:
It’s a fun & unifying tradition. And, why not? We miss each other.
What else:
Daily challenges!
What?!
Picnickers are invited to participate in the daily challenges which can be found in the IS Padlet, where you will be able to post photos and videos. The winner of each daily challenge will be the one with the most likes. Staff will moderate the posts and take the final tally of votes for each day on Friday, June 19, at 2:00 PM. Winners of all five challenges will be posted in a sixth Padlet shelf.
Daily Challenges:
Monday, 6/15:
Find a picture of a celebration that brings people together.
Tuesday, 6/16:
Sing/lip-sync a French song (video no more than 20 seconds).
Wednesday, 6/17:
Share your favorite recipe.
Thursday, 6/18:
Take a picture of what you are eating for your picnic.
Friday, 6/19:
Take a picture of your picnic group.
If you have any questions, please contact your French teacher or Monsieur Kheriaty,
