Utility Insights

The Aclara ACE platform provides utilities and their customers data-driven tools that enable customers with personalized and actionable solutions that heighten energy cost awareness and promote energy and water efficiency.

After creating an account, customers complete a series of questions about their home or small business that can help them to understand their energy and water usage. Answers are used to provide better recommendations for reducing usage and saving money. A personal savings plan will be created based off the completed profile and customized recommendations! Users can then keep track of projects, create a to-do list of the energy and water saving actions they plan to do, mark off which tasks they've already completed, and see estimates of how much their efforts can save.

The program also allows customers to review a current bill summary with usages broken down by electric, water and sewer, view a projection of their next bill, and look at past bills in the bill history. Energy or water usage can be compared with temperature data to see how usage changes daily or during the winter and summer months. For example, this year's January bill can be compared to last year's January bill to see how energy usage has changed and how the temperatures affected that change.

Clear Choices
Clean Water

Did you know that the ditches and streams in and around Bowling Green drain to Lake Erie?

Clear Choices, Clean Water – Greater Toledo Lake Erie is a campaign to increase awareness about choices we make and the impact they have on our streams and lakes. Water friendly practices such as using phosphorus-free fertilizer, landscaping with native plants, managing yard and pet wastes, and volunteering to clean up our waterways help make clear clean water available to us. By educating individuals on these important actions and providing citizens with water-focused volunteer opportunities, we empower everyone to do their part for water quality and conservation.

Requirements for Swimming Pools

zoning certificate is required to erect a swimming pool in the City. A swimming pool is defined as any structure designed to contain at least 1.5' of water, above or below grade, which is an accessory to residential uses. A temporary swimming pool has the same requirements as a permanent pool and a zoning certificate must be obtained during the first year of use.

A scale drawing, showing the lot, the location of house/structures, property lines, and the location of the proposed pool, must be included with the application. The Planning Department may have drawings on file to help with this.
