CITY OF AZUSA TO HOST "NATIONAL NIGHT OUT"

Join the City of Azusa and the Azusa Police Department in observing the annual "National Night Out" on Tuesday, August 3rd, from 6:30 PM to 9:00 PM, in front of the Azusa Police Department at 725 N. Alameda Avenue. This free event is designed to promote crime prevention awareness for a safer Azusa through police and community partnerships.

Meet over 20 participating agencies, public officials, and local community organizations through information booths, demonstrations, and small promotional giveaways. Hailey, Azusa PD's new K-9, will also be making a special appearance! Following a short program, Chief of Police Mike Bertelsen will lead the community on a short walk around the Azusa Civic Center complex at 7:00 PM.

"This event is always a special experience and local favorite here in Azusa, so we hope the community will join us again this year as we promote crime prevention awareness in our community," said Mayor Robert Gonzales.

For more information about the event, go to www.AzusaCA.gov or contact Police Lieutenant Jorge Sandoval at 626-812-3200.
WATER BILL ASSISTANCE PROGRAM
MYLAR BALLOONS AND POWER LINES DON'T MIX

Azusa Light & Water (ALW) reminds its customers to keep Mylar balloons away from power lines. These shiny balloons sure look fun and festive, but they caused two of the recent power outages in Azusa affecting hundreds of homes in the last two weeks.

The metallic coating on Mylar balloons conducts electricity and can cause a short circuit or power surge when in contact with power lines. This can lead to power outages, melting of electrical wires, and fires. To reduce the risk of outages and potential injuries, here are some tips on how to safely and properly handle Mylar balloons:

  • Never release a Mylar balloon outdoors
  • Keep Mylar balloons away from power lines
  • Use balloon weights
  • Never use metallic ribbon with metallic balloons
  • Always deflate metallic balloons and dispose of them properly
WATER SUPPLY UPDATE

The numbers don't lie. And the continued heatwave is not helping.

month
  • Below average rainfall:
-7.65 inches YTD vs. 22.53 inches average

  • Local reservoirs at minimum levels
  • 50 of state's 58 counties are now in a state of emergency drought

REFUSE AND RECYCLING INFORMATION
SB 1383 STATE LAW REQUIRES EVERYONE TO RECYCLE ORGANIC WASTE

Effective January 1, 2022, ALL residential and commercial customers in the State of California will be required to recycle organic waste (including food waste) to help reduce greenhouse gas emissions (GHG) caused by landfills. As a result, trash collection and recycling services will have significant changes affecting everyone, not just Azusa.

The City of Azusa and your City Council are diligently working with Athens Services, the City's franchise hauler, in developing an organics recycling program to comply with the new law. More information will be sent out soon!
