Meet One of Our Newest Board Members -
Steve Wright
Steve has been active with the Neuro Assistance Foundation since 2008 and just recently joined as a Board Member in 2016. He is currently serving as Secretary for the Foundation.
As a three decade veteran in the equipment finance industry, Steve has worked in various senior roles for Citi, GE and currently for TCF Bank. Outside of work and NAF, he has been active with Junior Achievement and Habitat for Humanity. In his free time, Steve has an affinity for college football, reading and cooking.
Steve received his undergraduate degree from Marquette University and his MBA from Butler University. he and his wife Miriam, his son Chris and two daughters, Elise and Annie, live in Keller, Texas.
We are honored to have Steve serving on our board.

Heshima
in Nairobi, Kenya
I have a friend that recently visited Nairobi, Kenya in Africa. During her visit she came upon a group called Heshima. This is a Swahili word that means "respect" or "honor" in the English language.
Heshima was developed by a missionary couple alongside of their two children. Their son "
Simon was born at 22 weeks. He sustained multiple heart attacks during the first year of his life and is a testimony of God's healing. Eric and Tracey have a passion to provide dignity for families that otherwise are treated with disdain because of their disabilities. Simon is the reason that Heshima began".
I am touched to see how
people are seeing a need to support individuals with disabilities across the world, wherever they may be, and meeting that need. The mission statement and vision of Heshima is: "
Through the love of Jesus Christ Heshima will provide a holistic environment that includes physical, mental and spiritual support for children with special needs in Kenya".

Meet Wisdom
This is Wisdom, 13, and his family. Wisdom is blind and he sees doctors at Texas Scottish Rite Hospital for Children for his scoliosis (
His spinal cord is at a curve of greater than 90 degrees in the thoracic region).
Wisdom's father contacted NAF when their wheelchair accessible van needed repairs that they were unable to afford. The van was stuck in the repair shop and Wisdom had no way to get to doctor appointments without it. NAF was honored to pay for Wisdom's van repairs and he is now back on the road.
"I would like to let you know that I brought back Wisdom's van on Saturday. The family is excited to see Wisdom's van back. Wisdom will now be able to see his doctor on Monday, 10-9-2017.
I, my wife Augustina, my daughter Blessing, and my sons Wisdom and Anointing are all praying that God will bring you more blessings for assisting us. Thank you so much for what you have done for us."

Heroes on the Water
DFW Chapter
Since being founded in 2007, Heroes on the Water has been organizing no-expense kayak fishing trips for active-duty military and veterans of the U.S. armed forces and their families. Heroes can reflect in solitude or connect in groups as they learn kayaking and kayak fishing basics.
This is a great organization that works in a unique way to bring healing to those who have suffered for our nation, whether that be mentally, physically, or both. If you are a service member or veteran of the armed services and would like to learn a little kayaking and fishing, give the Heroes on the Water a call! Best Companies To Work For If You Have A Disability
The Disability Equality Index was created five years ago as a way to measure the inclusivity of the disabled community in the workplace.
The Mighty article tells us the
"companies opting in on the survey are ranked based on hiring goals, company leadership, accessibility, benefits, recruitment, accommodations, community engagement and support services...
This year, the DEI surveyed 110 large companies, awarding its top score to 68 companies including CVS Health, Delta Airlines, General Motors, Microsoft, T-Mobile, Starbucks, Sprint, Walmart, Wells Fargo and Verizon".
Of the 110 companies surveyed, USBLN tells us of the different areas the companies are succeeding in, improving in, and need some improvement in. If you would like to read that article, just visit USBLN.org.

A Few More NAF Clients
Hank,
30, is a husband and father of 2, ages 6 & 3.
In July of this year, Hank's truck rolled over when he tried to avoid a car pulling out in front of him.
He received a T-9 spinal cord injury in the accident and is now living with paraplegia. Hank's wife, Laura, reached out to NAF for help getting medical supplies and equipment for his home to give him independence. We helped with catheters, a sliding board and a bed trapeze to help Hank get himself dressed and in/out of bed. We received this wonderful message from Laura,
"We are so excited to get a transfer board! We were seriously considering making one You made our day!!! I just wanted to let you know, Hank received a call from C & R Medical (to order the bed trapeze). I wish there was some way I was able to repay all the things you have already done for us!! You're amazing!! Thanks again!!"

John, 56, has been living with quadriplegia since 1981 when he sustained a C-5 spinal cord injury in a car accident. John worked as a systems analyst for 25 years but is now retired and has been having numerous problems with pressure sores. After several surgeries in the past year, his doctor ordered a specialized cushion, however, the cushion is not covered by Medicare and John couldn't afford it. John's social worker at the hospital reached out to NAF and we were happy to provide the ROHO pressure reducing cushion.
