COVID-19 Update
Dear Family and Friends of Tabor Home:

Update On Cases
Currently there are 44 active COVID-19 cases among residents at Tabor Home and 23 active cases among staff. Sadly, there have been eight deaths and our condolences go out to the family members and the caregivers. Our thoughts and prayers are with you.

Communication with Families
Tabor Home continues to reach out to family members to provide updates on the health status of your loved one living at Tabor Home. Should a change in their health status occur, you will be notified as quickly as possible.

Starting immediately, Clinical staff will be contacting each resident’s designated primary contact with a telephone call at least once a week and more frequently as staffing resources permits. We realize the restricted communication between yourself and your loved ones has been hard. We hope and trust these weekly phone calls from staff will help bring a little more peace in your heart and mind as we all continue to work together in getting back to being outbreak free.

Enhanced Safety Measures
The health and safety of our residents and staff is our first priority and a responsibility we take very seriously. We continue to work with Fraser Health to ensure the safety measures are in place to prevent further spread of COVID-19 at Tabor Home. These safety measures are audited on a regular basis including: hand washing, Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), declutter, environmental and soiled utility.

We are continuing our weekly testing of all staff and residents at Tabor Home. Those who have recovered are back to working on-site which is great news! Those who have recovered, but have previously tested positive are not tested again as the virus could still be in their system, but no longer transferable to others. This follows Public Health guidelines, therefore, testing is only done on those who have tested negative.

A Difficult Month
November has been a difficult month. The one thing that gives me hope are the health care heroes protecting older persons. There is a human side to the story that must be told. They deliver a bouquet of flowers from children to a palliative senior. They ensure a wife is with her husband receiving end of life care so that no one dies alone. They sit at the bedside, holding the hand of a COVID positive older person reciting a hymn, praying as a final breath is exhaled.
Health care workers are all working together to control the outbreak. The single mom who tested positive is at home recuperating and those who tested negative continue to support the older persons at the care home quarantined for weeks, perhaps months.

Life can throw at us unimaginable challenges, but the one thing that these exceptional health care heroes radiate is an ability to maintain hope for a brighter morning, even during the darkest nights. Know this, these unsung heroes wipe their tears away, don their PPE and lead Tabor Home by example.

I am proud to share that these extraordinary nurses are my heroes.

I imagine they are also your heroes!
