Mexican Consul Reaches Out to San Miguel, Paso Robles Communities to Get Vaccine
Earlier this week, Mexican Consul in Oxnard Euclides Del Moral Arbona published a video encouraging Mexicans living in San Luis Obispo County to get a COVID-19 vaccine.
"For those of you who live in San Miguel, Paso Robles or in San Luis Obispo itself, it is very important to get vaccinated against COVID-19," the Consul said. "This terrible pandemic has left many of us without our relatives, loved ones, or we have suffered the disease itself."

The video outreach was a partnership of the Consul's office and our friends at Promotores Collaborative of San Luis Obispo County. You can find a Spanish language version of the video on Facebook here. SLO County Public Health and other community partners with the Farmworker Outreach Taskforce continue efforts to encourage the Latinx community to get vaccinated as the Delta Variant increases COVID cases and hospitalizations in SLO County.

Farm Bureau Executive Director Brent Burchett received an update on current COVID conditions on Wednesday as part of the County's COVID-19 Task Force meeting this week. To find testing locations or make a vaccine appointment click here.

State Government News: California Farm Bureau Reacts To State Senate Passage Of AB 616
California Farm Bureau Reacts To State Senate Passage of AB 616

California Farm Bureau President Jamie Johansson expressed extreme disappointment at the actions of the California Senate today in passing Assembly Bill 616, which would allow a yearlong mail-in card check system for unionizing instead of a secret ballot election.

“The Senate eliminated the farm employees’ right to choose, for themselves, whether they want to have a portion of their paycheck deducted and sent to a union,” Johansson said. “AB 616, by the Agriculture Labor Relations Board’s own analysis, will result in fewer elections because AB 616 does not require them to occur.”

“The fact is that there will be farm employees who show up to work one day, only to find that they are part of a union, without ever having an opportunity to voice their own desire,” Johansson added. “They are already suffering from lost jobs due to drought, reduced paychecks due to the overtime law and now the Senate takes their right to vote away. This bill will likely pass the Assembly again soon. However, we sincerely hope the governor values the dignity of farm employees enough to protect them from intimidation, preserve their right to vote and protect the sanctity of the secret ballot by vetoing this bad bill.”

Wisdom From The Farm & Ranch
The Farmer
Amelia Barr

The king may rule o’er land and sea,
The lord may live right royally,
The soldier ride in pomp and pride,
The sailor roam o’er ocean wide;
But this or that, whate’er befall,
The farmer he must feed them all.
The writer thinks, the poet sings,
The craftsmen fashion wondrous things,
The doctor heals, the lawyer pleads,
The miner follows the precious leads;
But this or that, whate’er befall,
The farmer he must feed them all.
The merchant he may buy and sell,
The teacher do his duty well;
But men may toil through busy days,
Or men may stroll through pleasant ways;
From king to beggar, whate’er befall,
The farmer he must feed them all.
The farmer’s trade is one of worth;
He’s partner with the sky and earth,
He’s partner with the sun and rain,
And no man loses for his gain;
And men may rise, or men may fall,
But the farmer he must feed them all.
God bless the man who sows the wheat,
Who finds us milk and fruit and meat;
May his purse be heavy, his heart be light,
His cattle and corn and all go right;
God bless the seeds his hands let fall,
For the farmer he must feed us all.
