April  News

,

These past days and weeks have certainly changed our daily routines. We have had time at home, a chance to slow the pace, and to stop and smell the roses. Learning something new can fill our days, so for your stitching pleasure, below is a new technique and a lovely rose design to give the technique a try. Here's what else has been happening in my sewing room.
On the Design Wall

Staying in touch with family and friends during this crazy time is so important. My sisters and I decided to join in Edyta Sitar's, Laundry Basket Quilts, 2020 Mystery Quilt as a way for us to connect daily. So on each of our design walls is a quilt being worked entirely from our stashes. (Just a note, the Mystery Quilt is now a pattern available on Edyta's site. It is called California.)

I must confess this is my first time doing a mystery quilt. It has been an interesting process for me, a lesson in having faith and finding joy along the journey. A good motto for these unprecedented times.

Another project on my Design Wall is a small quilt designed by Missy Carpenter of Traditional Primitives, A Warm Welcome.

Missy teaches an English paper piecing method, but I chose to machine piece the center. It was a new learning experience for me, but once I explored the internet and discovered some tricks for sewing the center together, I was hooked. Fons & Porter have a great YouTube video with helpful tips. I did press all my seams open and my top is laying perfectly flat. These little 1" per side diamonds were so much fun to stitch!

Next is the pineapple border. I will use Perfect Placement Applique to applique the pineapples.

What have you been stitching these last several weeks?

New Patterns !

We have three new patterns that were introduced last month, Floral Urn 2.0 , Grape Wreath & Chalice 2.0 , and Pinwheels in My Garden

All three patterns are currently available at Cinnamon's Quilt Shoppe . Cinnamon's is filling online orders, so be sure to check their website.

These new patterns offer a great opportunity to learn a new technique or two, or relax and stitch something beautiful for your home, a family member or friend.

Please send along any pictures of any blocks or quilts you stitched from these patterns! Your work is always an inspiration to us!

Enjoy!

Stitches & Techniques

Each month this section will highlight a new-to-me stitch or technique. I will share a pdf of the technique or a video link so you too may learn along with me.

This month's technique is Rubber Band Circles. There are lots of ways to prepare circles for applique, but this technique has changed my applique life! It works for multiple circles or even for fussy cutting circles. I was grateful to have learned this technique in time to finish my Posey Packets quilt! There are a lot of fussy cut circles on that quilt that used this technique!

There is also a video of the technique on YouTube by Joellen Brill.

Pincushion finishes 6" x 6".
If you would like to try the technique, here is a free pincushion pattern, Stop and Smell the Roses

The rose was inspired by Elly Sienkiewizc in her book, Dimensional Applique. She used circles to make roses on the Crown of Ten Penny Roses block, pages 78-79 of the book. There are six roses on the block. The Rubber Band Circles technique would speed the stitching time when making this beautiful block!

Enjoy our simple Stop and Smell the Roses pattern

Stitching Companions

It's with great excitement we introduce our newest stitching companion...Fiona!

I wish I could say this is my little cutie, but she is sister Jo's new addition. This little one is a bundle of joy and settling in nicely with her brothers Stanley and Tidus.

Looking forward to lots of cuddle time with the little princess soon!
