The School Start-End Times Project Team held its fourth and final meeting on Monday, March 4. The School Board is now asking for additional feedback from stakeholders before it begins to discuss the recommendations and take any action.
Feedback can be given online through
Thoughtexchange
or in person at the March 18 School Board Listening Session or the March 25 School Board Meeting.
Important upcoming dates are listed below:

The spring school party is upon us! March 22 is the second all-school party of the year. We will be dancing, eating pizza and playing basketball from 2:30-4:30 p.m. in the field houses and cafeteria. Tickets go on sale on Monday, March 18 during lunches and continue all week. Prices are $5 in advance, $6 at the door. All food and soda at the party will cost $1.
We want as many students to come as possible, but remember, if you have eight hours or more of in-school suspension or any out-of-school suspension, you cannot go to the party. If you are unsure about this, check with your grade level dean or grade level coordinator.
See you on the 22.

6th grade Field Trip - Minnesota History Center
On Thursday, March 14, 331 sixth graders, 25 teachers and staff, two Global Interns, and 28 parent chaperones visited the Minnesota History Center. This annual field trip is a supplement to the sixth grade curriculum of Minnesota History & Studies. During the day, students had the opportunity to explore the dangers of working on the Iron Range at the turn of the last century or what it was like to live in a soddy, learn about Minnesota's "Greatest Generation" and life in the 40s, and the culture of the Somalis living here in Minnesota.
In addition to their exploration of the exhibits, all students participated in one of the following Museum Lessons: Logging in Minnesota, Minnesota in the Civil War, They Chose Minnesota or Minnesota Invents. The Museum Lessons are led by Historical Society staff members using artifacts from the archives to help the students understand the history of our state even more.
We thank the Middle School Site Council for covering the cost of admission for this field trip for our students. Transportation costs were covered through a Legacy Grant from the State of Minnesota.
A big thank you goes to the 28 parents who gave time to chaperone our students yesterday. Without you, field trips like this would not be possible!

On Wednesday, March 20, students at St. Louis Park Middle School are invited to participate in Away for a Day by leaving their cell phone at home (we encourage this option, if possible), in their locker or turned off or in airplane mode for most of the school day. Throughout the week at school the students will engage in activities and conversations about the experience and how the presence of personal devices and phones impacts our daily lives. Parents/guardians, please make a plan for this day with your students.
This is not a mandatory activity, and there is no penalty for students that do not wish to participate. Students who do participate in the activity will be eligible for a prize drawing. Please contact building administration if you have questions.

The Student Action Team (SAT) is sponsoring a coin drive, through the WE Organization, to help raise money to purchase goats for villages in Kenya. $50 will buy one dairy goat for a family.
Starting on Monday, March 11, St. Louis Park students can bring in change to their OT teachers that will then be collected by members of the SAT at the end of each week. As an incentive, the first OT to $50 will get a cookie party and the OT that raises the most money overall, will get a pizza party. Their goal is to raise $500, or 10 goats, by March 29.
