Message of the Month
From Executive Director
Sheri A. Marino, MA, CCC-SLP
Rocking Horse Rehab is celebrating our 17th year at The Essex Equestrian Center! As we approach the upcoming holiday season, I look back on all of our amazing accomplishments and I feel so grateful to every staff member, volunteer, intern, family member, and equine partner who have been a part of our incredible journey! We continue to be dedicated to bringing quality equine therapy programs to our children and families and look forward to helping more college students follow their passions through our partnerships with more than twenty Universities.

Last month I had the opportunity to get back in the ring to work with our clients while helping to train our new speech pathologist, Elizabeth Belfiore. We welcome Elizabeth to our RHR family and look forward to learning and growing together!

On November 3, 2018, Carey and I attended the Italian Welfare League's (IWL) annual gala at the Metropolitan Club in NYC. The IWL has generously sponsored RHR kids of Italian American descent for the past 10 years! Since 2001, the League has donated more than $1,850,000 to over 1,470 recipients for medical bills, special needs equipment, therapeutic services, transportation and rehabilitation to children of Italian American descent. We are honored to be a recipient of funding that allows us to bring equine therapies to children who otherwise would not have access to our therapy programs.

Wishing all of you a very Happy Thanksgiving and asking everyone to keep our friends and families in California who are affected by the devastating forest fires, in your prayers.

Happy Thanksgiving!

Hero of the Month
Julianne
Julianne has been coming to Rocking Horse Rehab since April 2017. She has enjoyed riding on Que Boy since the beginning. Initially excited, she sat on Que with some apprehension, holding on tightly to her side walkers! She now comes enthusiastically each week clapping her hands with a big smile on her face. She will assist more with all transfers on the horse, and rides more relaxed, clapping and giving high-fives! The joy that Julianne gets from riding infuses all those working with her!

Julianne, we are proud to nominate you as our hero of the month. Giving this hero of the month award would not be complete without including her mother, Felicia, who brings Julianne each week and delights in watching her daughter's progress and joy!
Volunteer of the Month
Gabby Slade
Gabby is a junior at Montclair State University who is majoring in Family Science and Human Development with a concentration in Family Services. Growing up on a farm, Gabby rode western as a child which sparked her interest in pursuing an internship with us. She currently is doing a full time internship with our social worker.

Gabby's ultimate goal is to work with children in troubled circumstances to overcome obstacles and become their best selves. Gabby's smiling face and willingness to do any task has made her a great part of our team. We look forward to spending the rest of the semester working with Gabby!
Thank you to our grant giver
