November in Ballooning

On November 10, 1981, the first balloon to cross the Pacific Ocean took flight. This balloon, named the Double Eagle V, was piloted by Ben Abruzzo, Larry Newman, Ron Clark and Rocky Aoki. The pilots launched in Nagashimi, Japan and landed in the Mendocino National Forest in California. Not only were they the first to cross this ocean, but the team set a new distance record of 5,768 miles.
