Dear Osher Members,

Welcome to the 2021-2022 academic year! We are delighted to embrace another year of lifelong learning programs to expand your horizons, and we are MOST excited to welcome you back to the Yanke Family Research Park—in person!

Most of our programs will have seating available in the Osher classroom; however, because of the locations of presenters, or other factors, some presentations will be offered only by livestream (with a recording). When you register online, look for the notation of "Livestream/Recording Only" to identify those presentations. This will be our first time ever delivering seated programs while broadcasting via livestream and recording all at once! We ask for your patience as we begin this new experience.

Membership purchase or renewal for 2021-2022 is available beginning July 1 by logging into your Osher account. Registration for the fall semester begins on July 6. As with the last three semesters, whenever you wake up that morning, simply log in to your account and register for the programs that interest you. There's no need to rush; every registered member will automatically receive the link to the Zoom livestream, as well the recorded program following the event. One week prior to the program, you will receive a confirmation email with the livestream link, as well as an indication of seats available in the classroom. If we have more members registered than the classroom's seating capacity, we will use a lottery system to seat members. (If you have already decided to engage only via livestream/recordings this year, feel free to drop us a note at osher@boisestate.edu. That may free up a seat for another Osher member who would appreciate it!)

Our partnership with The Great Courses Plus/Wondrium continues this year. For only $45, Osher members receive a subscription valid August 1, 2021 through July 31, 2022, with access to thousands of lectures and courses. Consider augmenting your lifelong learning needs with this unique opportunity. Select this option on the registration page.

Join us at our next Virtual Social Hour on Wednesday, July 7, at 12 p.m. MST to ask all your questions. Watch your email for the link to the Social Hour the day prior to the event.

Starting this semester, we will be delivering most of our programs in a hybrid approach—this means that programs will be held in person while being simultaneously livestreamed and recorded. However, some programs will only be livestreamed remotely; these programs will be denoted on the registration site.

If you have registered for a program but cannot attend in person, no worries! You will automatically receive a confirmation email with the livestream link for all programs. Registered members also will receive an email with the recording link for each program.

For the upcoming academic year, membership fees will remain at $70.

Along with a return to in-person programs, we will resume several Osher Special Interest Groups (SIGs)! These are a wonderful way to take a deeper dive into specific topics and connect with other Osher members.

Here are the SIGs that will be meeting in Fall 2021:

You can sign up for a SIG when you register for your Fall semester programs. Information on meeting dates, times, and locations will be confirmed with registrants via email.

We are excited to announce the Osher Institute's new Special Interest Series (SIS), a blend of a traditional SIG and a workshop-type presentation. This SIS features a five-part series of writing sessions, each facilitated by a professional presenter who will focus on a specific genre.

Seating is limited, and each session will be held in person to encourage interaction and participation. The $35 fee for the series includes one session each in the following: Personal Essay, Flash Fiction, Poetry, Fantasy, and the Novel.

Please note: This Special Interest Series will NOT be recorded. Guest passes are not available for this series.

Dr. Mac Test and Dr. Matthew Hansen have extended an invitation to Osher members to audit their Boise State course, THEA 360: Advanced Studies in Theatre History. It will be held on Wednesdays, August 22 through December 10, at 4:30-7:15 p.m. Please email Dr. Hansen at matthewhansen@boisestate.edu for more information about the course.

The Osher office will be closed in observance of the

4th of July holiday on Monday, July 5.
