Faith in the Time of Covid
|
On Sunday morning, I walked to the post office to get some steps in, then rested for a few minutes on a bus bench. It was the time I'd usually be leaving Mass, and usually, traffic would be humming. This is what it looked like. I was feeling a little sorry for myself, then I heard a horn. I looked up, and a bus was there, door open. The driver asked if I was waiting for him. I shook my head, smiled, and waved him on. But the more I thought about it, the more I think I was waiting for him in a manner of speaking... and appreciated that act of kindness in this unusual time. I pray you're seeing them too.

Friends in Faith: People I'm Praying For
|
A friend who's recovering from knee surgery. An aunt who recently had to leave her home of decades for an assisted living facility. The mother of a good friend. The awesome women in my Bible study group. A friend on the cusp of a major change in her ministry.
This is the place in the newsletter where I usually tell you whose faith is inspiring me. But this month, I'm sharing my prayer list.
Let me know
if you'd like me to add your intentions to it!

On the Nightstand:
Unsheltered
by Barbara Kingsolver
|
My sister has been, well, my sister for decades and my roommate for nearly sixteen years. Yet we've never read a new-to-both-of-us book at the same time. We're changing that up this month by reading Barbara Kingsolver's
Unsheltered,
about two families who lived in a New Jersey home a century apart. I've enjoyed several other Kingsolver titles, and am looking forward to this one. Yes, I'm still doing spiritual reading, mainly autobiographies and biographies of male saints. But I thought I'd share what else is on my nightstand for a change!

Writing... and a Chance for You to Win!
|
It's always a blast to chat with Allison Gingras on her
A Seeking Heart podcast, via email, or best of all, in person. We were going to talk about the Proverbs 31 Woman of Worth and my book last month, but we ended up getting into covid, teleworking, and keeping the faith in hard times. I hope you'll consider giving it a listen.
I recently got the cover for
Brotherhood of Saints, which will be out from Franciscan Media in October. I love the look, and think it will pair well with
Sisterhood of Saints.
As you may know, my website features a little
database with saints, life-death-feast-canonization dates, quotes, images, and links to know more about them. As I write this, there are 925 entries. Here's the deal:
Email me by this
Friday, April 4, with the day you predict the database will reach 1,000! I've still got about 100 saints to write about before the
Brotherhood manuscript is due to the publisher on May 10, so it's a safe bet it will be sometime before then. The person who comes closest will get hardcover copies of both
Brotherhood and
Sisterhood as soon as
Brotherhood is available.
Thanks for reading, stay safe, and be kind. Remember, the joy of the Resurrection is coming, whether we celebrate it in our churches or our homes.
