Melanie Clifford President Banner Header

Melanie Clifford

As I sit here looking out my office window at the beautiful mountains, I am reminded of the first time I came to Tennessee.  It was during the holidays in a blizzard, it was magical.  It was after midnight when we arrived and the streets were covered in snow.  There were millions upon millions of lights.  I knew at that moment I would make Tennessee my home.

It is hard to believe it is again the holidays (funny how most of us say that every year).  The festivities of Christmas and Hanukkah are upon us. And soon the New Year will be roaring in.  Make this year special by spending time with your friends and family.  You might try creating a new tradition, or spend a few moments sending a card to someone that you have not seen in a while.  Surprise someone.

We hope that you enjoy our Holiday E-Card as we look back on the past year.  It has been an amazing 2013. Thank you for being a member of MPI and thank you for making our Tennessee Chapter your MPI home.

On behalf of your Board of Director's, from our house to yours......Merry Christmas, Happy Hanukkah, Happy Holidays!!!

It is a pleasure to be your President for the 2013-2014 year.

Melanie Clifford

The 7th Annual Mind Your Meetings on November 19th at the Memphis Marriott East was a half day event consisting of a workshop and networking.  Meeting planners in attendance received the latest in tech advances, and meeting trends.  The General Session kicked off with a Technology Panel then followed with  Breakout rotations on topics ranging from exciting local venues to tips with contracting with suppliers and understanding the ins and outs to obtaining your CMP.

The Speaker Showcase was comprised of three excellent speakers that left you wanting more with Kimberly Medlock, Bridget DiCello, and Andrew Geiseselman.  The Topics were on subjects of "How to De-Clutter Outlook" to "Navigating Difficult Conversations" to "Building Trust".   The Latest Meeting Trends presented by Leo Events was very interesting and helpful to keep us on top of our game.

The Memphis Marriott East was a great host for this event and we look forward to another successful Mind Your Meetings next year.

Save the Date! Connect Education & Tradeshow Event ~ April 16, 2013

Lunch Presentation Topic - "Planners are from Saturn, Suppliers are from Venus: Interpreting the Strange Languages and Habits of Two Alien Species" Presented by Shawna Suckow, CMP, Founder of the Senior Planners Industry Network (SPIN)

Planners and suppliers often think they speak the same language, but three years of research has proven quite the opposite to Shawna Suckow, CMP, author of the book Planner Pet Peeves and the follow-up book, Supplier Pet Peeves (published in 2013). Planners are people-pleasers by nature, and may not always be forthcoming if relationships can be damaged. Suppliers want to put their best products and services forward, but they most often are left to guess at what the market really wants and expects from them. Then there's the trend of planners not answering the phone, not responding to emails, and generally making it harder for suppliers to build relationships. Join Shawna as she pulls back the curtain and shares what each side is doing-and how it is interpreted by the other-in a funny but impactful look at how we all can do better and drive each other a little less crazy.
