A message from our Executive Director

Friends -

I am writing to you as we jointly face the impact of COVID-19 on our families and communities.

The moratorium on public gatherings comes at a time when so many of our Crossroads Heritage Partner sites would be opening for the season. Major events like the Battle of Bound Brook reenactment, which we captured on video last year, have been postponed or cancelled in support of social distancing policy.

Unfortunately, the situation has also delayed the public release of the much-anticipated historic site visitor readiness assessment for Revolution NJ, the state's commemoration of 250 years of the United States. While we were hoping to host a lively discussion of the assessment team's findings and recommendations in late March, we've had to postpone for the time being. We appreciate your patience as we work on alternate plans for presenting the information in a forum where everyone can hear directly from the assessment team and ask questions.

Like you, the Crossroads team is managing in an uncertain environment. As supporters of New Jersey's Revolutionary heritage, we can take inspiration from those who lived through hardship and uncertainty here 240 years ago, and consider the positive things that are happening now:
  • New Jersey teachers and historic sites are finding creative ways to share the state's Revolutionary heritage despite challenges.
  • The Crossroads team is continuing to support our partners, sharing innovative virtual programs and planning for our next professional development workshop- whether online or in person. We're also continuing our Crossroads-branded interpretive signage program, working on content, identifying funding for future signs, and more.
  • Crossroads continues to work with the New Jersey Historical Commission on the planning infrastructure for the 250th, knowing that 2026 is an immovable deadline. We're organizing and recruiting our advisory and campaign councils, advocating for continued funding and establishing long-range goals.
Everyone on the Crossroads staff is working remotely and can be contacted by email; our addresses are available on our website.

We deeply appreciate your support and extend our best wishes for good health to you and your loved ones, and we look forward to speaking with you soon.

Best regards-
Janice Selinger
Newest Crossroads-branded sign unveiled during Liberty Hall ceremony

Liberty Hall, the home of William Livingston, New Jersey's first elected governor, is the latest Revolutionary historic site to host a Crossroads-branded sign.

The kiosk was unveiled on March 12 by representatives from Liberty Hall Museum and Crossroads of the American Revolution. In addition to a brief history of Governor William Livingston, the sign includes information on the June 1780 Battles of Connecticut Farms and Springfield, which marked the last major attempt of the British to engage Continental forces in the northern states. Now surrounded by the campus of Kean University in Union, Liberty Hall relates more than 240 years of American and New Jersey history. Read more and watch an informative video on our website.

The project was accomplished with financial assistance from the New Jersey Historic Trust through the Discover NJ History License Plate Tourism Grant Program. Major funding for the signage was extended through a generous grant from Horizon Blue Cross Blue Shield.
New Trustees Elected to Crossroads Board

Crossroads of the American Revolution Association's Board elected two new trustees during its first meeting of 2020 on March 25.

David Capozzi is a Haddon Heights-based attorney with expertise in local government law, including service in municipal roles in several South Jersey communities.

Jennifer Godoski is Director, Policy and Government Affairs for New Jersey Resources and has an extensive background in state government, having previously served in leadership roles in the Departments of Transportation, Environmental Protection and Community Affairs.

Both were elected to three-year terms, joining a committed group of business and civic leaders in advising Crossroads' professdional staff.
Keep up with Crossroads All Month Long

We're working to keep our social media and website updated with the latest information from our Heritage Partners on site closures and event postponements. We're committed to be your source for rescheduled event dates and site re-openings as we receive them.
