B4Stage4: Changing the Way We Think About Mental Health
When we think about cancer, heart disease, or diabetes, we don't wait years to help people get treatment. We start long before Stage 4. We begin with prevention and early intervention. When people are in the first stages of physical illnesses, we try early on to reverse symptoms.
This is what we should be doing with emerging mental health challenges. When people first begin to experience symptoms such as loss of sleep, feeling tired for no reason, feeling low, feeling anxious, or hearing voices, we should act. Just like a cough, early symptoms of mental health issues may never need treatment, but deserve the same type of attention as other illnesses.
