July 15, 2021
I think we are sometimes guilty of dismissing Biblical mandates because the metaphors do not seem relevant in our modern, insta-everything world. This Sunday we return to examen Jesus' command to be salt and light. Interestingly, it is the first command given after the intro to the sermon on the mount. I find as I read scripture, that Jesus doesn’t stutter, or stammer, or hesitate when he gives his commands. Jesus creates no moral ambiguity when he speaks. You don’t need a telescope, or a horoscope, or a microscope to realize the fullness of Christ, and the emptiness of a universe without him. We are called by God to fill this moral vacuum created by generations of sin, with a timeless truth and an unfailing love, that is both evident and radiant. Join us this Sunday as we explore what it means to be salt and light in the 21st century.
