Dear River Montessori Families,
Oh, how I hope this has found you healthy, happy, and wrapping up the best Spring Break you could manifest during this unique time! We hope that you have found a bit of a personal and family stride as you shelter-in-place and try to meet your children's needs at the same time. Here's to moving forward together with the knowledge that you have gathered about your children and schedules these last two weeks, plus the plan that the guides have designed thus far to get us going in this distance learning world.
Distance Learning at RMCS until at least May 1, 2020
Along with the rest of the schools in Sonoma and other Bay area counties, and at the behest of public health officials, RMCS will offer distance learning until at least May 1. Of course, if guidance changes, we are open to resuming earlier.
Beginning Next Week
RMCS will start to onboard everyone into the virtual systems that will hold our collaborations moving forward. We hear from other schools that this is time-consuming and a bit bumpy but that we'll get through it just fine. It is clear from the survey that there are wide-ranging opinions for how much and what kind of work can be done at home. My favorite response is, "We're game to experiment," and I think this is the healthy position with which to partner. This is a completely new way of learning and living for our students, and far from the hands-on experiences and purposeful interactions in a Montessori classroom. We're just going to have to take it step-by-step, knowing that just like in the classroom (and life?!) that everyone comes into their knowledge and comfort with varied pace, patience, and personality!
Please watch for an email from your child's guide. They will reach out with the specifics about their plans for communication, work expectations, and delivery. Much time has been spent in launching simply so we can maintain success for the children and families and not to overwhelm anyone in the process.

Thanks again for all of your positivity and shared appreciation! It is affirming to all of us at school to know that we all share the community spirit of partnering in this new way.
Please join me in gratitude for our RMCS guides and specialists; they have given up so much of their personal time during the break crafting a program that will meet the loft of the Montessori Methodology, the needs of our students, and help us all start this new venture with as few hiccups as possible. We are extremely lucky to have such a dedicated team of talent, so let's have a virtual standing ovation for Grace, Emma, Deanna, Emily, Lisa, Brendan, Roxanne, Lorna, Carolyn, Marcy, Julia, and Helen for their efforts in ensuring that all of our students can have opportunities to continue their learning at home-thanks to all of you!
Enjoy your remaining days of Spring Break, and, until we can join each other again on campus, know that we are eager to co-create a fun and supportive way of navigating the next weeks with you and your child!
