By now we are all well aware that schools will be closed until April 17 and even at this writing, that seems to be up in the air. We will have to take it week by week and follow the guidance of the national and state authorities.
I have always believed that when a crisis hits, the best and unfortunately, the worst comes out in people. In my last
Between the Lions article, I mentioned the Katrina crisis and the way that the St. Pius X family came together to assist those in need stands as one of my top memories. I believe this current situation will be just as memorable. No one was ready for a crisis of this magnitude, yes, we had prepared this year for potential bad weather but how could we anticipate that we would overnight, have to redesign our entire plans to deal with a long-term situation. As one teacher recently said, teachers were asked to do an “Apollo 13 miracle.”
After week two of this sudden change, I am proud of our students, families, and teachers for what is being accomplished. Talking with colleagues all over Metro-Atlanta, we seem to be handling it as well as, if not better than most. Using the technology at our hands, we have been able to communicate with all 103 teachers and share what is, at this time, the best practices and what is not working so well. Yes, we made some changes as we did not want to penalize the students, and more changes could be coming if necessary. Is it perfect? Absolutely not, but know that we are doing everything in our power to deliver meaningful, engaging work for our students.
Yes, this too shall pass, and may we all look back on it with a sense of accomplishment.
Stay Healthy!

Principal
PS: We have included parents of alumni and grandparents on this email to give you a glimpse of life on campus these days. We will send another update to you the week of April 16.
