Happening This Weekend! Romeo & Juliet
Kings High School Theatre will present Romeo and Juliet by William Shakespeare. This year's Fall play is not your typical Romeo and Juliet.

The production is set in 2020 New Orleans during the height of the election season. The theme line to the play is "Divided We Fall." Play Director, Pete Moore said, "The kids have worked so hard. Shakespeare is difficult under normal circumstances, but this group has come together to create an amazing show despite the obstacles. I couldn't be more proud."

Romeo and Juliet - Divided We Fall will take place Friday, November 20 and Saturday, November 21 at 7:00 p.m. and a Saturday Matinee at 2:00 p.m. in the Kings High School Auditorium.

Seats will be limited due to COVID-19 restrictions. Click here for tickets.

Social Emotional Update
More great information from Kings Social & Emotional Coordinator, Kim Sellers.

Although we have been very proactive at Kings to ensure our students are okay, the current pandemic and social isolation can all impact our mental health. Seasonal Affective Disorder can also cause people to feel “down” when the days get shorter in the fall and winter which is also referred to as the “winter blues”. Holidays can also be a very difficult time for some.

I wanted to take the time to share crisis resources again in the event your child may need them. For mental health a crisis or emergencies, patients and families are encouraged to contact their current mental health provider first. This allows the mental health provider, who knows your child best, to provide support and direction. If your child does not have a mental health provider, and they are experiencing a non-life threatening mental health crisis, you are encouraged to contact the Psychiatric Intake Response Center (PIRC) at CCHMC 513.636.4124. The PIRC staff will help you to decide the most effective level of intervention for your child’s mental health crisis – which may include an urgent psychiatric assessment in the PIRC Bridge Clinic.

You should call 911 or go to the emergency department if you are experiencing a medical emergency, a life-threatening mental health crisis, or are directed to go there by a medical provider. This will help limit the spread of the virus in our community and allow our emergency departments to care for patients with the most critical needs first.

Additionally, MRSS Services are available. Mobile Response & Stabilization Services (MRSS) is a comprehensive program available to youth ages 0 to 21 and their families. MRSS staff meet with youth and families in person wherever they are to provide intensive services to address emotional and/or behavioral issues that require intervention. Families can stay with MRSS for up to 60 days.

How to reach MRSS
Call (877) 695-6333, 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

Crisis Hotline (Warren County) and Text Line:
If you feel that you or a friend is in a crisis situation and/or fearful of hurting yourself or others and there isn’t a caring adult you can reach right away, please contact (877) 695-NEED (6333) or text 741741 and type 4HOPE. Take this time to put these as contacts in your phone, please. These crisis lines are operated 24/7, so please call or text anytime you have questions or concerns, day or night.

Kings COVID-19 Dashboard
Kings has been in school, as of today, 50 days! We are proud that we have been able to maintain a relatively safe and healthy school environment so far. We know that many of us are having COVID fatigue but it is important for ALL of us to continue to try to stop the spread of COVID-19. Please take care over the Thanksgiving holiday by wearing masks, handwashing and avoid large gatherings. We want to stay in school!

Each week the COVID-19 Dashboard is updated with number of positive cases and quarantines.

Please continue to perform a daily health assessment on your student before coming to school. You can utilize this Decision Tree to help decide if you should send your child to school.

We appreciate all of the patience and care shown by our Knight Nation while we navigate the COVID-19 pandemic. For more information on safety protocols and our back to school plan please visit our Reopening Plan website resource page.
KHS Academic Achievers - Week 8
Kings High School top students are being recognized each week by the Kings High School Parent Teacher Organization.

Week 7 honorees are Robert Orr and Alex Justus. Click here to learn more about Robert and Alex.

Typically, these students are recognized at half-time of the football games, but this year, due to COVID-19 restrictions, this annual tradition will not be able to happen in person.

Congratulations!
Kings Junior High Winter Guard Tryouts
Calling all 7th & 8th graders! The Kings Junior High Winter Guard is seeking
members for the 2020-2021 season!

Kings Junior High Winter Guard is an “artistic” sport that meets after school on Tuesdays and Fridays until 5:00 p.m.. The group learns a show including elements of dance, acting and spinning flags and rifles that we “normally” take to competition on Saturdays January through March. (We are still waiting to hear details about what the competitions will look like, but we are still going ahead with our season.) It is a really fun activity that promises to entertain and challenge!

The group is run by JF Burns Elementary Music Teacher Jennifer Maegly. We will have 2 open rehearsals where students can try out the activity; Friday, Dec. 4 and Tuesday, Dec. 8. Please plan on attending both days. Come
prepared to find out how much fun is to be had by joining this group.

If you have any questions please contact Jennifer Maegly at 398-8050 x 16045 or at jmaegly@kingslocal.net.
Bring Joy to a Kings Student for the Holidays
KingsUKnights is a 501(c)(3) organization that helps families at the holidays. So far this year, there are 132 families that have been referred with 337 children. KingsUKnights has sponsors for many of the children, but still have a need to support about more 40 children.

Additionally, KingsUKnights have seen a big reduction in donations from local churches who have historically been a large support for the program.

KingsUKnights is looking for:
  • a couple of business sponsors or groups to sponsor the large families ($500 each).
  • a couple of business sponsors who could contribute cash for Kroger gift cards (they plan to give out about $8,000 worth).
  • Donations of laundry detergent. They are hoping to give a bottle to each family.

Can you help or do you know of a business who is looking to help families at the holidays? If so, please contact Missy Kowitz at kingsuknights@gmail.com.
