November 19, 2020

Dear York Catholic Families,

Below you will find some very important reminders regarding COVID-19 and Student Travel during this time.  Most importantly, please remember families are obligated to inform the school nurse at [email protected] if their YC student tests positive for COVID-19.  Also, families who travel during this time of a world COVID-19 pandemic are obligated to inform the school of their travel destination.  Please see below for more details.

Thank you for your patience, understanding, and cooperation during this time.

Sincerely,

Katie Seufert '96
Principal

Student Travel During COVID-19
During the holiday season, we remind you of the Return to Learn plan for quarantine and travel:

School staff and school community members will abide by the State of Pennsylvania recommendations on quarantine for travelers to other states (see link below for the list of states). While the state considers these recommendations, the schools of the Diocese of Harrisburg are implementing them as requirements to quarantine. Any school staff or students entering PA from the states listed in the order are required to quarantine for 14 days. Please note that the list is updated regularly. Likewise, any school staff or students entering the US from abroad (international travel) are required to quarantine for 14 days. Since international travel includes a wide range of situations, those affected bring their individual circumstances to the principal who will consult with the Secretary for Education to make a final determination.

This applies to those who have traveled to one of the listed states. It does not apply to household members who did not travel to one of the listed states. However, if the individual who is under quarantine develops any signs or symptoms or has a positive test result, their close contacts, including household members, should also quarantine.

Families who choose to leave school for vacation will follow the standard school policy of time out of school for vacation purposes. The request to be out of school will be sent to the school office for approval, any work that students miss will be made up upon the return to school. No work will be prepared by teachers prior to the trip.

If a vacation is planned during COVID, families will report the destination and dates during which students will be out of school to [email protected]. If families choose to travel to a COVID identified hot spot/"red state"/area, students will quarantine for the required 14 day period upon return to Pennsylvania.  Currently, the "red travel states" can be found at:  https://www.health.pa.gov/topics/disease/coronavirus/Pages/Travelers.aspx

College & Career Update
Seniors:
Students have been meeting with Mrs. Phillips to review college application details and requirements. Seniors at this time and through December should be working on and completing their Common Applications and other college applications with December or January application due dates as specified by each college. Seniors should invite teachers and other recommenders as soon as possible to allow the minimum two week time period for recommendation letters to be completed. Click here for the Transcript Release form that should be submitted (as soon as applications are near completion) to Ms. Dill in the Guidance office.

Juniors:
Juniors met with Mrs. Phillips in October and November and signed up for Career Explorations through the York County Alliance for Learning in the areas of Criminal Justice, Engineering, Information Technology, Law, Nursing, and Veterinary Medicine. More information is contained in the students' Google Classroom or by clicking here.

Juniors also continued to complete the eleven inventories on our SCOIR online guidance system and have been tasked with completing them by the New Year. These inventories include numerical reasoning, inductive reasoning, idea generation, sequential reasoning, timeframe orientation, and interest profiler. Students can login to their SCOIR account that they set up in sophomore year and complete the inventories in the Career Profile section. Juniors completed many of the inventories during meetings with Mrs. Phillips this fall.

If you have any questions about our College and Career Counseling program, please contact Mrs. Phillips, College and Career Counselor, at [email protected].
