The Children's Trust Announces
Early Learning Educators: Professional Development Scholarships & Wage Supplements Available! *
The Early Learning Career Center, funded by The Children's Trust, has opportunities for ALL early learning programs and educators in Miami-Dade County to access scholarships for professional development and wage supplements through the Child Care WAGE$® salary supplement program. Save the Date: Social Emotional Learning Program Quality Assessment *
The Trust announces a special workshop for Trust-funded 6-12 youth development providers that will guide you in the interpretation of your program self-assessment and CAT observation data, offered on the three separate dates listed below. One representative from each provider agency MUST be present at one of the sessions; however, we strongly encourage that every relevant provider attend as a team of a program manager and up to four direct staff.

  • Thursday, May 9, 9:30 a.m. - 3 p.m.
  • Friday, May 10, 9:30 a.m. - 3 p.m.
Injury Prevention Trainings
All Trust-funded providers are required to participate in childhood injury prevention capacity-building efforts facilitated by the Public Health Trust's Injury Free Coalition for Kids of Miami. Project RISE will pilot “Homework Assistance,” a peer learning workshop for youth development staff to practice skills learned in the online “Intro to Homework Assistance.” Taking place on Tuesday, April 16, 10:30 a.m. - 1 p.m., location TBA. SEL Outcome Assessment Trainings
In addition, Project RISE is also offering three online Social Emotional Learning (SEL) Outcome Assessment trainings, which are available to all Trust-funded youth development providers:

Advocacy Network on Disabilities: Upcoming Trainings

  • Structures for Success Friday, March 22, 9:30 a.m. - 12:30 p.m., Belafonte Tacolcy Center. This training provides participants with a toolbox of preventative strategies for working with youth with and without disabilities who are experiencing behavioral challenges.
  • Introduction to Successful Inclusion of Children with Autism Spectrum Disorder Part 1 - ONLINE This online course provides program staff with introductory information about autism spectrum disorder, including definitions and various ways in which these conditions may manifest. Content also includes information about helping youth meet behavioral expectations, recognizing and accommodating those with sensory sensitivities, assisting youth with fostering social competence, addressing bullying and ensuring a safe environment.
  • Discovering Inclusion Training - ONLINE Discovering Inclusion is an introductory workshop for staff with little or no previous knowledge about children and youth with disabilities and inclusion. It includes an introduction to various types of disabilities, identifying the benefits of inclusion for all, using People First Language and respectful etiquette, and the characteristics of an inclusive program. There is also an opportunity to explore personal beliefs and values.

Workshop: Immigrant Rights *
Join Americans for Immigrant Justice and the Advocacy Network on Disabilities for a workshop on immigrant rights, taking place on Wednesday, March 27, 1-3 p.m., at Goodwill Industries, 2121 NW 21st Street, Miami, FL 33142. Special services available to immigrant children through the Immigrant Children’s Legal and Service Partnership will be discussed, and attending families will be able to sign up eligible children for a screening with an attorney after the presentation.
Training: Powerful Communication, Breakthrough Results *
The Early Learning Coalition of Miami-Dade/Monroe is hosting the YES Institute's signature course, Communication Solutions. Participants will learn practical tools for relating authentically, communicating powerfully with co-workers and clients, and resolving communication breakdowns to produce breakthrough results. This is a FREE training taking place on Friday, March 29, 9 a.m. - 3 p.m., at the Early Learning Coalition of Miami-Dade/Monroe, 2555 Ponce de Leon Boulevard, Coral Gables, FL 33134.
The Melissa Institute 23rd Annual Conference *
The Melissa Institute announces ADHD, Aggression & Emotional Dysregulation: Practical Implications for School, Clinical & Community Settings, taking place on Friday, May 3, 8:30 a.m. - 4 p.m. Presenter Russell Barkley, Ph.D., will discuss links between ADHD and emotional dysregulation, and how to help children, adolescents and families experiencing these concerns. Attention Nonprofits: Share Your Change-Making Ideas to Get Funded!
United Way of Miami-Dade announces year two of Inspire305, a funding initiative that activates solutions for innovators, change-makers and emerging philanthropic leaders to propel change in our community. Two new grant opportunities are available - a $25,000 Grand Innovator award and a $10,000 Trailblazer award; selected finalists will be put to a public vote and pitch their nonprofit at a culminating Inspire305 event in May.   • Research & Evaluation Analyst To serve as a critical member of both cross- and interdepartmental teams who engages in proactive problem-solving and critical thinking/analysis related to particular child, youth and family program areas and populations. Primary responsibilities include the identification and critical review of evidence-based/best practices in specified program areas; assistance for funded service providers and Trust staff on development of program performance measures; oversight of reporting methods for capturing program performance; regular appraisal of basic program performance statistics and data analyses; contribution to reports that explain initiative results to a variety of audiences; and systems enhancement to ensure accountability. This exempt salaried position works under general supervision and support of a senior research and evaluation analyst.

Extension Program Assistants *
The University of Florida IFAS Extension Family Nutrition Program seeks extension program assistants to help educate people in the community about the importance of healthy eating and physical activity in reducing chronic disease. Responsibilities include teaching nutrition education classes to groups of limited-resource individuals and families in various locations throughout the county. Minimum high school diploma; knowledge of nutrition and teaching experience preferred.
