April 25: BioME Student Showcase
Registration now open! Come meet the future workforce! On April 25, 10AM-2PM BioME is hosting the BioME Student Showcase. This is an exciting opportunity to watch Maine high school and college students show off their passion for life science and present their research for a chance to win cash and academic prizes. The goal of this event is to support innovation and commercialization of student ideas in Maine, as well as connect current students with potential future employers and entrepreneurial support institutions in the state.

Maine BioGENEius Challenge 
Do you know a Maine BioGENEius? BioME is the official local partner for the BioGENEius Challenge, a prestigious international biotech competition for grades 9-12. The high school winner of BioME Student Showcase will automatically qualify to compete against international students in the BioGENEius Challenge finals during the BIO International Convention in Philadelphia, PA, June 2-5, 2019. Travel costs will be covered for the winner and ONE chaperone. The Maine BioGENEius Challenge is open to any student in grade 9-12 attending public, private or home school in Maine. Maine BioGENEius competition will take place during BioME Student Showcase on April 25 (please see above).
UMaine Tour & Spring Networking Reception 
On March 20, 4-7 PM BioME is organizing a tour of University of Maine Orono campus, followed by a Spring Networking Reception. We will be stopping by Foster Center for Innovation, aquaculture and engineering facilities, labs and more. This event is free and open to the public.  We will be joined by UMaine's president, Dr. Joan Ferrini-Mundy, who will be presenting at this event. 
June 12: Women in Bioscience 
Save the date!  On June 12th, 3-6 PM BioME is organizing our second annual Women in Bioscience networking event at Grace in Portland. The goal of this event is to share success stories and challenges, along with practical concepts to advance women in the bioscience. Additionally, we aim to inspire a younger audience to pursue a career in the industry by highlighting career options in the bioscience industry.

April 3-4: BIO Legislative Fly-In

On April 3-4, BioME delegation will meet with Maine Representatives and Senators to talk about bioscience related issues during the annual BIO legislative Fly-In in Washington, DC. Please feel free to connect with BioME's Executive Director if there are any specific issues you'd like us to address. 

BioME is funding 4 Science Summer Camp Scholarships
As a follow up to ME Bioscience Day 2018, BIOME has decided to fund 4 scholarships in the form of 1-week-long summer science camps at the Maine School of Science and Mathematics in Limestone. Eligible students must be age 11-14 and attend one of the schools that participated in ME Bioscience Day 2018 on Nov 7. The camps run between June 30 and Aug 3. Any week can be chosen, depending on age restrictions and availability. The scholarships cover room, board and transportation. Students should apply directly with us no later than March 31, 2019 to be considered.
