198th Avenue
SW 198th Avenue remains closed through Sept. 30, between Anderson and Jaylee streets. Detour , Bike and Pedestrian Detour

Kerr Contractors is constructing the new retaining walls adjacent to the bridges.

Oregon State Bridge, the bridge subcontractor for the 198th Avenue project, completed the installation of bridge pile and sheet piles for both bridges, and is currently building bridge abutments and related wing walls.

PGE has completed pole relocations north of Butternut Creek and is now working on installations of poles south of Jaylee Street.

The electrical subcontractor for the project are beginning the installation of electrical conduit runs for new street lighting between Farmington Road and Oak Street.
Upcoming activities
198th Avenue
Other work scheduled for the coming months includes:
  • Completion of path restoration and installation of fencing adjacent to the new water quality/detention at the Butternut Creek Elementary School.
  • Continued bridge and road construction within the road closure limits. Bridge beams are tentatively scheduled for installation in mid-September.
  • Completion of storm pipe installation between Butternut and Kinnaman streets.
  • Start of storm pipe installation between Celebrity Street and Farmington Road.
  • Continued installation of electrical conduit between Farmington Road and Celebrity Street.
  • Start of sound wall installation along the north side of the new Kinnaman Road alignment.
  • Utility companies will continue to relocate power lines (PGE) and water meter services (Tualatin Valley Water).
Safety
Please obey all construction signage and flagger instructions/directions. These safety measures are in place to protect the public, as well as the construction workers.

With any road construction activities, there will be noise, dust and traffic impacts. We understands that this is very disruptive to the neighborhood/homeowners.We apologize for these inconveniences and appreciate your understanding and patience.
Traffic impacts
ROAD CLOSURE: SW 198th, between Anderson and Jaylee streets, is closed to through traffic until Sept. 30. Only residents residing immediately beyond those areas will be allowed access. Detour , Bike and Pedestrian Detour
 
SIGNED DETOUR: Commuter traffic should use the signed detour route to 185th Avenue or 209th Avenue. Pedestrians and cyclists can bypass the closure via 192nd Avenue. TriMet route #88 is operational, though some stops have been temporarily closed due to the road closure/earthwork activities.
 
Project work hours are 7 a.m.-6 p.m., weekdays. Lane restrictions are limited to the hours of 8:30 a.m.-4 p.m., weekdays.
About the project
SW 198th Avenue, between Farmington Road and TV Highway, is being widened to three lanes (one lane in each direction and a center turn lane).

Additional improvements include:
  • Continuous bicycle lanes and sidewalks
  • Replace bridges at Butternut and Celebrity creeks
  • Signalize 198th Avenue/Kinnaman Road intersection and realign west leg the intersection
  • Safety enhancements at all intersections
  • Street lighting
  • Storm drainage upgrades
  • Culvert crossing upgrades
  • Roadway geometry improvements
