DCEO offering Hospitality Emergency Grant Program for small businesses
The Village understands how the COVID-19 pandemic, and the resulting “Stay at Home” order closing all non-essential businesses in Illinois, has affected Tinley Park businesses, especially small businesses. The Village’s Economic Development Division is working with Tinley Park businesses for ways to provide assistance in helping them stay afloat during this crisis and will continue to provide information as it becomes available.

Yesterday, the Illinois Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity (DCEO) announced the Hospitality Emergency Grant Program. Small businesses in Illinois affected by the COVID-19 pandemic can use this grant money to support working capital (rent, payroll and other accounts payable), job training (such as new practices related to take-out, delivery and sanitation) and technology-enabling new operations, as well as other costs to implement that technology. For hotels, funds can be used as working capital to support the retention of employees.

Bars and restaurants that generated between $500 thousand and $1 million in revenue in 2019 are eligible for as much as $25,000, and bars and restaurants that generated less than $500 thousand in revenue in 2019 are eligible for as much as $10,000. Hotels that generated less than $8 million in revenue in 2019 are eligible for as much as $50,000.

Businesses can submit applications online now through 5 p.m. Wednesday, April 1. Grant recipients will be chosen via a lottery, therefore, there is no benefit to submitting an application first as long as a valid, complete application is received by the deadline. Winners will be notified on Saturday, April 4.
