August in Truro...
August -- starts with summer, ends with a hint of fall. Although we lose an hour of sunlight, our warm surrounding waters keep our average air temperatures almost up to July's.
According to past records, we expect an average temperature of 69°F, with average lows of 61°F and highs of 77°F. We traditionally get a total of only 2.8 inches of rain (a bit more than July).
Below are some of the activities and events happening about town this month.

Truro Historical Society
This month we are turning our attention to the issue of Climate Change on the Outer Cape. Our new exhibition, "Rising Seas, Falling Dunes" will look at this issue through the lens of art and science as we examine the visible changes that climate change has caused on the Outer Cape. Through photographs, charts, and artwork, we take a close look at the effects of breaches, coastal erosion, and sea rise while also showing how current Cape-based artists are expressing their concern through their artwork.
Also, we will carry out this theme in our Wednesday evening lecture series, and we have scheduled the following future talks:
  • "Climate Change on the Cape: Causes and Consequences" - Larry McKenna; August 7 6:30-7:30pm
  • "Curbing Climate Change through Education & Public Policy" - Rich Delaney; August 14 6:30-7:30pm
  • "What Nature Is Telling Us about Climate Change" - Bob Prescott; August 21 6:30-7:30pm
  • "Small Boats, Big Ideas: Keeping Cape Cod's Fishing Industry Vital" - Seth Rolbein; August 28 6:30-7:30pm
