Lifetime Achievement Award for Larry Flood

Larry Flood
Larry celebrates with Terry Smith of Smith's Research and Gradings.
CalHFA is proud to announce our own Larry Flood, Director of Financing, received the 2019 Smith's Lifetime Achievement Award for Affordable Housing Finance. The award is given each year at Smith's Research & Gradings Affordable Housing Finance Conference to honor the recipient's body of work. The Lifetime Achievement Award was presented during the conference luncheon on March 14.

Smith's Lifetime Achievement Award for Housing was introduced in 2004 to provide recognition to an individual who has made a lasting impact on the affordable housing finance market.

"Mr. Flood has worked tirelessly over the past three decades to advance the public purpose of assisting first-time homebuyers and working families to access affordable housing," said Terence M. Smith, CEO, Smith's Research & Gradings. "His work has advanced the efficiency of single-family and multi-family financing. He has created a public good, in the form of economic diversity and community-based housing sustainability."

Larry's 35-year career has been a succession of highlights. He has worked with more than 30 state Housing Finance Agencies to underwrite and sell more than $20 billion in housing bonds. He helped create the New Issue Bond Purchase and Temporary Credit & Liquidity Programs, which were lifesavers for state HFAs. When those expired, he was principal architect of the HUD/FFB Multifamily Risk Sharing Program, which served as the sole vehicle for multifamily production by HFAs for several years.

Congratulations, Larry!
