Last week Representative John Garamendi introduced legislation to address CASA’s top priority federal issue: extending NPDES permit terms for a fixed period of up to ten years. CASA is asking for your assistance in moving this bill forward and gaining support for the measure.
The introduction of
H.R. 1764
is an important step in the process of making ten-year permit terms a reality. The House Committee on Transportation & Infrastructure may consider infrastructure and funding legislation as early as the first few weeks of April, and H.R. 1764 may factor into those discussions. In order to support Representative Garamendi, it is vital that members of our CA congressional delegation cosponsor H.R. 1764.
To this end, we request that you send a letter to your Member(s) of Congress urging your Member(s) to support the bill and to contact Representative Garamendi to cosponsor his legislation. Letters must be transmitted no later than
Friday, March 29
.
We have prepared a
template letter
for agencies to use and adapt to your own circumstances. Your agency would be joining a broad coalition in supporting this reform, including the National Association of Clean Water Agencies (NACWA), Association of California Water Agencies (ACWA) and the National League of Cities. Our
coalition letter of support
has already been submitted.
Thank you for helping CASA to advocate on a significant issue to the wastewater community! Please direct any questions related to this request to
Adam Link
, and please provide a copy of any letter(s) you transmit to CASA’s federal advocate
Eric Sapirstein
