If you’re reading this, there’s a good chance you are a fiery activist, passionate enough about fighting for democracy that you have volunteered and maybe even organized and possibly even donated as well. The fact that you have taken some action – any action – separates you from 99% of people, and makes you a leader.
The vast majority of people we speak to in our voter drives, phone banks, text banks and postcard campaigns are not fiery activists. They’re not registered to vote – that’s why we’re speaking to them. They generally have very little or no information about politics, which is why they’re not registered!
Our first instinct is to tell these people to call voters in West Virginia so they can call on Joe Manchin to reform the filibuster so the Senate can pass the For the People Act and save democracy. It’s a little like walking up to a stranger and asking them to marry you. It usually doesn’t work out!
What we do requires patience, empathy, and an almost supernatural ability to remain non-judgmental.
We are a friendly face – even behind a mask. We are proof that a political conversation can be fun, respectful, and inspiring. We rehumanize where others have demonized. We are the voices that lift up other voices. We sell people on themselves – on their power to change the world for the better. We educate them on how the Democratic party is fighting for their values.
And then, if we’re lucky, we literally sign them up for the American Experiment.

She soon became our National Outreach Director, and is responsible for so much of our success. While we were so sad to see her go, we were thrilled she was starting her own organization. VOTERIZER MADE SIMPLE
Last week Adam Lesh, the mad genius behind Voterizer — by far the fastest way to register a fresh new Democrat — conducted a wonderful run-through of Voterizer.org as well as its lightning-fast, highly customizable field version.
Adam also shared tips on how you can co-brand Voterizer for your organization... adding your own language and logo, creating notes about the elections most important to you, and downloading info from the voters you register!

Field Team 6 runs on volunteer power. And this week we're spotlighting the amazing Melanie Burgess! A SoCal native who's lived in Vancouver, B.C. with her family for the past four years (after making the decision to relocate on the day that a certain wannabe dictator was inaugurated), Melanie got involved with FT6 in the summer of 2020. She's an organizational queen who handles the huge job of managing the FT6 calendar while also taking on countless other behind-the-scenes jobs. She's also thrown herself into working on the state briefs for our current Voter Drive in a Box initiative! When she's not saving the world from behind her computer, you can catch her hunting for mid-century modern treasures at thrift shops and vintage sales (and on Facebook Marketplace). Here's what FT6 has meant to Melanie, in her own words:
Starting this volunteer work really helped me regain a sense of accomplishment, separate from my family, after so many years as a stay-at-home mom. Knowing I'm doing my small part has prevented me from feeling powerless and made a world of difference for me!
Melanie is an indispensable part of the FT6 team – and her Standard Poodle Lucy is pretty darn cute, too. Thank you, Melanie, for every single thing that you do!

Diamond Bar! – and currently represented by first-term Republican Young Kim, who voted against impeaching Trump, against the COVID relief bill, against voting rights, and against the Equality Act. We're pulling out all the stops to register and turn out enough Democrats to flip this seat back to blue in 2022 – and we're just $110 away from our goal!
