Let's Catch-up: June 2021
Our mission is to empower families to foster resilience and prioritize mental health and emotional wellness in their children through educational programming, access to resources, and peer support.
Parenting Post-Pandemic
As we emerge from the pandemic, parents are worried about their children’s mental health and long-term development. How do we know what’s going on with our kids? How do we respond?
CATCH & The Northbrook Woman’s Club are thrilled to invite the entire community to a virtual presentation with Dr. Tina Payne Bryson on Monday, September 20, 2021 @ 7pm. She'll teach us The Power of Showing Up for our kids, answer our questions, and help us thrive and prepare for whatever comes next.

Dr. Bryson is an energetic, funny, and engaging speaker who is known for sharing captivating stories that explain brain science and illustrate practical skills that parents say they use immediately.

While the pandemic delivered some wonderful silver linings, it also brought trauma, increased anxiety, fear and much more. Let’s join together to understand all the feelings, legitimize them, and prioritize mental health and emotional well-being.

Registration details still to come...
Summertime Parenting
In the meantime, take advantage of these next few months to prepare for what’s next. How? We’re so glad you asked!

In the latest entry to the CATCH Journal, Erica Leibrandt, LCPC, RYT, SoundMind Counseling & friend of CATCH, outlines a few practical steps you can take to improve communication with your child, help them set an optimal mindset, and feel empowered, understood, and ready to return to school.

No worries, it still allows time for ice cream outings!
Learn from Experts
Understanding Eating Disorders

Did you know an eating disorder may be more than a person's desire to change their body? In many cases, it's a sign of a mental illness. In the latest edition of Learn from Experts, CATCH turns to Sarah Halvorson, LMFT, Director of Clinical Services, Ascend Consultation in Health Care, for answers to questions about signs, treatment, recovery, and more.
Dads & Mental Health
father_son.jpg
When we celebrated Father’s Day, it reminded us that we don’t talk much about men and mental health, but we should.

The National Alliance on Mental Illness reports dads’ emotional well-being is on the decline, and while, that’s worrisome for our father’s, it’s also a problem for the entire family.

Let’s open up the conversation. Ask Dad, how are you feeling? Are you ok? Do you need help?

We must eliminate the stigma around mental health and men who are told to man up, and let everyone know their emotions are real and deserve attention and time.
Resources We Recommend
Have you visited the Recommended Resources page on the CATCH website? We recently added a bunch of new Instagram accounts that cover topics ranging from coping with grief to dealing with picky eaters to learning how to draw emotions.

You’ll also find lists of books, podcasts, and websites we’ve found helpful.

We’re parents too, and we know it’s overwhelming to sort through the mountain of resources out in the world. That’s why CATCH only recommends resources we’ve reviewed and approved.
