Palm Sunday

From early times Christians have observed the week before Easter as a time of special devotion. As the pilgrim Egeria recorded in the late fourth century, Jerusalem contained many sacred places that were sites for devotion and liturgy. Numerous pilgrims to the holy city followed the path of Jesus in his last days. They formed processions, worshipped where Christ suffered and died, and venerated relics. From this beginning evolved the rites we observe today on Palm Sunday, Maundy Thursday, Good Friday, and Holy Saturday. These services provide a liturgical experience of the last days of Jesus' earthly life, as well as the time and events leading up to his resurrection.

On our website www.wolfesaints.com there is a link to our YouTube Channel with links to worship videos for Holy Week and links to corresponding worship bulletins so you can participate in worship. These are services we recorded for Liturgical Year A in 2017 using the assigned texts for this year. You may watch and worship anytime at your convenience.

Palm Sunday, April 5th
While worship on this day usually starts with recalling Jesus's triumphant entry into Jerusalem and then pivots to telling the story of the Passion for the first time, this year, we invite you to focus on just the first. Use this Sunday to welcome Jesus, and your faith, more fully into the place where you live. If you've not done this before, set up or set aside a sacred space in your home. Place a candle, a cross, holy images there: whatever helps focus your attention on God.

Today, place a small branch there (It doesn't need to be a palm; use what you have.) and remember how joyfully the people greeted Jesus. Welcome Jesus, yourself: into your home, and into your heart.

Matthew 26:14--27:66 - The passion of the Lord
Maundy Thursday April 9th

Friends in Christ, in this Lenten season we have heard our Lord's call to struggle against sin, death, and the devil-all that keeps us from loving God and each other. This is the struggle to which we were called at baptism. Within the community of the church, God never wearies of forgiving sin and giving the peace of reconciliation.

Traditionally on this day we confess our sin against God and our neighbor and enter the celebration of the great Three Days reconciled with God and with one another. Individual confession and absolution will be available via phone between 1:00 and 3:00 pm by calling Pastor Bill at (603) 714-9321. He will invite you confess your sins against God and your neighbor using these words:

Most merciful God, we confess that we have sinned against you in thought, word, and deed, by what we have done, and by what we have left undone. We have not loved you with our whole heart; we have not loved our neighbors as ourselves. We are truly sorry and we humbly repent. For the sake of your Son Jesus Christ, have mercy on us and forgive us; that we may delight in your will, and walk in your ways, to the glory of your Name. Amen.

He will then speak words of individual absolution.

Consider a home foot-washing with those with whom you are quarantined on Maundy Thursday to replicate Jesus asking his disciples to serve each other.

Psalm 116:1-2, 12-19 - I will lift the cup of salvation and call on the name of the Lord
1 Corinthians 11:23-26 - Proclaim the Lord's death until he comes
John 13:1-17, 31b-35 - The service of Christ: footwashing and meal
Good Friday, April 10th

This is the day that Jesus dies on the cross, a day to pray, especially between noon and 3 pm.
Consider using these prayers:

Blessed Savior, at this hour you hung upon the cross, stretching out your loving arms: Grant that all the peoples of the earth may look to you and be saved; for your tender mercies' sake. Amen.

O God of unchangeable power and eternal light: Look favorably on your whole Church, that wonderful and sacred mystery; by the effectual working of your providence, carry out in tranquility the plan of salvation; let the whole world see and know that things which were cast down are being raised up, and things which had grown old are being made new, and that all things are being brought to their perfection by him through whom all things were made, your Son Jesus Christ our Lord; who lives and reigns with you, in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen .

Lord Jesus Christ, Son of the living God, we pray you to set your passion, cross, and death between your judgment and our souls, now and in the hour of our death. Give mercy and
grace to the living; pardon and rest to the dead; to your holy Church peace and concord; and to us sinners everlasting life and glory; for with the Father and the Holy Spirit you live and reign, one God, now and for ever. Amen.

Worship Opportunities:
Facebook Live w/Pastor Bill at 3:00 pm at Friday
Zoom w/Bishop Rob at noon at Zoom  or by phone (audio only) by dialing 1-929-205-6099,  Webinar ID: 795 318 737. The service will also be live-streamed on the diocesan YouTube page : You Tube

Readings for the Day:
Isaiah 52:13--53:12 - The suffering servant
Psalm 22 - My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?
Hebrews 10:16-25 - The way to God is opened by Jesus' death
John 18:1--19:42 - The passion and death of Christ
The Great Vigil of Easter, Holy Saturday, April 11th

Let this be, as much as possible, a day of rest.

O God, Creator of heaven and earth: Grant that, as the crucified body of your dear Son was laid in the tomb and rested on this holy Sabbath, so we may await with him the coming of the third day, and rise with him to newness of life; who now lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen.

After sunset, light a candle and remember your baptism by saying "thank you" for the gift of God's love and blessing, splash in some water and offer this prayer:

O God, who made this most holy night to shine with the glory of the Lord's resurrection: Stir up in your Church that Spirit of adoption which is given to us in Baptism, that we, being renewed both in body and mind, may worship you in sincerity and truth; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you, in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever. Amen.

Then say, shout, or sing: Alleluia! Christ is risen! The Lord is risen indeed! Alleluia!

And conclude with this prayer ("Christ our Passover," BCP 83):
Alleluia! Christ our Passover has been sacrificed for us; therefore let us keep the feast, Not with old leaven, the leaven of malice and evil, but with the unleavened bread of sincerity and truth. Alleluia. Christ being raised from the dead will never die again; death no longer has dominion over him. The death that he died, he died to sin, once for all; but the life he lives, he lives to God. So also consider yourselves dead to sin, and alive to God in Jesus Christ our Lord. Alleluia. Christ has been raised from the dead, the first fruits of those who have fallen asleep. For since by a man came death, by a man has come also the resurrection of the dead.
For as in Adam all die, so in Christ shall all be made alive. Alleluia.

Consider hanging white Christmas lights (or other lights, or electric candles) on Holy Saturday and ending your day by turning them on to brighten the darkness and mark the resurrection.

The Resurrection of Our Lord, Easter Sunday, April 12th

Celebrate Resurrection, as you can. Proclaim Alleluia! Write it in chalk on your walk or door. Make a sign for a window or post on your mailbox. Are there flowers around you, or new spring leaves? Take a picture, if you can, and, if you're able, send it to the church office email. We invite you to practice at home what the church practices with the Paschal Candle: lighting a candle every day of the Great 50 Days, from Easter through Pentecost. Use your Easter candle to the table when you have your Easter meal.

Consider a step outside with the persons with whom you are quarantined at noon to ring bells and offer a prayer of thanksgiving.

May God Comfort All Who Mourn

In the sure and certain hope of the resurrection to eternal life, we commend to Almighty God  Col. Michael Kelliher who died in hospice care at home yesterday from brain cancer. Mike, who was 62 is Kay Petersen's oldest brother and has been on our prayer list. A funeral mass with military honors and burial at Arlington National Cemetery will take place at a later date.

Merciful Creator, your Holy Spirit intercedes for us even when we do not know how to pray. Send your Spirit now to comfort the Kelliher Family and all who mourn in these days of need and loss, and help us to commend her to your merciful care; through Jesus Christ, our Savior and Lord. Amen.

L.I.F.E. Ministries Food Pantry Update

Wednesday, April 1st was another successful Food Pantry drive-through distribution day. For cooperative weather and dedicated volunteers we give thanks to God! The pantry continues to prepare bags of food beforehand for the smaller families and for their Vacation Station program. Bags included Easter ham steaks along with some Easter candy for the kids. On Wednesday the pantry served 145 families (61 w/children) of 391 people with 2 weeks of food. A total of 8,677 meals were distributed, 1,560 of which were to 130 children. Total meals for March was 18,105, an 18% increase over last year.

We are seeking a member of All Saints' to serve on the L.I.F.E. Ministries Board, if you are interested, please contact Pastor Bill. Judy Cole is a current board member and Dianne Wasmuth served on the board for many years if you have questions about this vital shared ministry.
