New: Book Club Kits for Middle Schoolers

Are you interested in starting a book club in your classroom or after school? The library has a new collection of
Book Club Kits for Kids and Teens. New titles include
Ghost by Jason Reynolds,
It Wasn't Me by Dana Alison Levy, and
Cosmic by Frank Cottrell Boyce. The kits contain 10-12 copies of the book and a reader's guide to help you with topics for discussion. You can pick up your kit at all library locations and Linx schools and check-out for two months. You'll find a complete listing of all the kits
in the online catalog. Just place a hold on the kit you want with your library card number and PIN/password, and the library will contact you when it's available for pick up.

Homework Help Spotlight: Gale Virtual Reference Library
|
Are you doing research projects on alternative energy, diverse animals, ancient civilizations, or Native American nations?
The Gale Virtual Reference Library (GVRL) can help! GVRL boasts a wide array of electronic encyclopedias covering history, medicine, the environment, religion, and more. The resources are reliable, searchable, and easy to navigate online. Each chapter or article within the encyclopedias offers citation tools, "Send to Drive" shortcuts, and easy downloading, printing, and saving for future use. If you want your students to have access to a wide array of dependable resources from their school or home, let them know about
GVRL. Students will need a library card to access this resource from home. Librarians would be happy to teach your students how to use this resource, just drop us a line through the

Summer Reading: A Universe of Stories

Join us this summer for a Universe of Stories! We all know the importance of summer reading in helping to alleviate the summer slide in reading skills.
Studies show that children involved in public libraries' summer programs have a reduction in skill loss when it comes to reading as compared to their peers. But how do we convince our students to join these programs, and stay involved throughout the summer? At Deschutes Public Library we reward each with a free book of their choosing. As they move through the program they can come to the library to build solar robots, learn about game design, experience an escape room, and more. Throughout the summer they will also earn more prizes and be entered into a grand prize drawing. We're your partner in combating the summer slide!

A Card Just for Teachers!
|
The DPL Educator's
Card allows for 100 items to be checked out, 30 holds to be placed, and a four-week check-out period. This card can be held in addition to a personal library card; cardholders are financially responsible for all items checked out to either card. Show us your school ID for the current academic year and we will get you started!
