How you can help

Seven Grand initiatives…..and how GFWC Georgia and the North West District will accept the challenge

Initiative One*  Education:  We will collect 1,000 Dr. Seuss books to distribute 500 in the State of Georgia to an inner city, high poverty school/Head Start program by March 2, 2020 and with 500 books being sent to GFWC for distribution in the Washington DC Head Start programs. Books may be new or very gently used and could be in English and in other languages. Each district is challenged to donate 167 Dr. Seuss books at their Fall 2018/2019 meeting.

North West District is asking clubs to bring one half of their membership number. (Ex. 30 members equals 15 books to bring.)

To Date: 50,716 Dr Seuss books have been donated       

GFWC GOAL: 55,000 books

Initiative Two*  Conservation: We will plant 1,000 trees during Arbor Day to be held on 2/21/2020 (Georgia’s Arbor Day). Planting of these trees will occur throughout the State at parks, schools, libraries, and other spaces. Each GFWC Georgia officer will be in charge of planting ten trees (90 total) for this project leaving 910 for six districts to plant 152 trees. Districts may choose to have a tree planting party or distribute throughout the clubs.

North West District is asking clubs to plant 152 trees total.       

To Date: 17,811 have been planted    GFWC GOAL:20,000

 

Initiative Three: Homelife/International Outreach: We will collect 1,000 pairs of used tennis/rubber soled shoes for the Nike Reuse program. Shoes are recycled and made into playgrounds and other items. Other non-rubber soled shoes donated will be donated to Soles 4 Souls.

North West District is asking clubs to collect one half of  your membership number.      

To Date: 36,763 pairs                                              GFWC GOAL: 40,000

Initiative Four: Public Issues: We will spotlight Women in the Military projects. Each club is challenged to complete one project for women in the military prior to March 30, 2020 for active or retired military women. Statewide, we will begin a “Cinderella” closet for women in the military to access on their base. Formal and semi-formal dresses will be donated at Institute 2019 for distribution to bases in Georgia. 

 To Date:799 projects were completed     GFWC GOAL: 1000 projects

Initiative Five:  CPR: Martin Luther King, Jr. “Day of Service”  will (not to be confused with our Georgia Day of Service to be held on April 25, 2020) encourage clubs to participate in a community service project on 1/20/2020 and promote it on the GFWC Facebook page. Report under CPR.

To Date: 789 projects completed           GFWC GOAL: 1000

Initiative Six* Capital Campaign: We will challenge each of our 2000 plus members to donate $.50 (yes, fifty cents) to the Million Dollar Campaign to total $1,000 by Fall District meetings in 2019. The state will send donation. Funds will be collected at the district level and submitted by the district treasurer to the state office by December 1, 2019 after Fall 2019 meetings.  We voted to increase our district dues by $.50 per member for the next two years       

To date 99 members donated $1,000   GFWC  GOAL:  1000

Initiative Seven:  Legislative: We will increase the number of members signed up for Legislative Action Alert (GFWC) by 100 during 2018 and 2019 at Institute. Each club will be provided the tools to teach young people through high school classes, older Scout troops or Girls/Boys State programs about resolutions. Each club is challenged to complete one project prior to March 30, 2019 and a second project by March 30, 2020.

Have someone at your meetings available to sign members up as they come in.  To Date: 1594 members have joined.          GFWC GOAL: 2500

3 Brand New Initiatives Goal

#1 1000 calls or emails to US Representatives on September 23, 2019 to urge passage of HR 2793, Miranda’s Law

#2 1000 calls or emails to US Senators and Representatives on October 23, 2019urging passage of 3D PRINTED GUN SAFETY

#3 1000 club/ State projects will be in place to celebrate the 100th Anniversary of Women winning the right to vote on August 26, 2020

Every child no matter their circumstances, has the inherent right to a loving good night, complete with the comforting bedtime ritual of changing into new clean pajama’s and enjoying an enchanting story.

We are asking our clubs to bring in Pajamas for our 2020 Convention centerpieces, after the convention all Pajamas will be donated to the Pajama Program. 

 

The cost to attend the District meetinis $25.00 To assist with registration, we are offering you the opportunity to register online.  If you choose to mail a check, please continue to complete the online registration which is important for our catering headcount.  Club Presidents, please make sure you notify and/or mail the Call to members who currently do not receive emails.  If they would like to attend, please register them online and have them mail in a check to our Treasurer.

A late fee will apply after this date.  Any cancellations should be addressed with Treasurer Cashwell.  Please remember your RSVP is your commitment to purchase a seat and you are counted in our headcount for the caterer, please RSVP and/or let us know even if you are unable to attend otherwise you will receive reminder emails to attend.
 

Voting Delegates:

The voting body of the District Meeting will be the Elected Officers of district and clubs including the President of each club in the district (or her designated alternate), District Community Service Program Chairs, District Chairs of Standing Committees, and one delegate for the first 25 (or less) members, plus one additional delegate for each additional 25 members. These club delegates are elected by the club they represent. Also with voting privileges are Past District Presidents and Life Directors. No proxies are accepted.
