PALOS PARK WEEKLY | JULY 9, 2021
National Hotdog Day

Thursday, July 22
Village Green
5:00-7:30 pm

The Hot dog has been around since the 1800’s and is synonymous with baseball, summer and picnics. This year celebrate National Hot Dog Day with the Village of Palos Park. Bring the entire family down to the Village Green.

Our celebration features an annual pet competition. Categories include: best dressed, owner and pet look-a-like, most unusual, largest, and smallest. While you are here listen to a great Strawdawg acoustic performance. Strawdawg is Chicagoland’s answer to great Country and Classic Rock.

The grounds are open from 5 to 7:30 pm. Complete meals of hot dog, chips, and a drink will be available for purchase ($3.00 meal deal). The first 25 pets entered will receive a treat.

Coming Up:

In April Mayor Mahoney signed the Mayor's Monarch Pledge to support Monarch conservation. Monarch caterpillars feed exclusively on the leaves of milkweed. This is the only host plant for this iconic butterfly species. As such, milkweed is critical for the survival of monarchs. Without it, they cannot complete their lifecycle.

The Village has a limited amount of milkweed seed packets available for distribution to our residents. The seeds are available at the Village Hall during business hours, Monday through Friday, 9:00 am to 5:00 pm.
The Village would like to acknowledge the work of our Beautification Chair, Denise Cowan, and the Beautification Committee. The Beautification Committee is responsible for the beautiful seasonal flowers and plants in the garden boxes at the corner of 123rd Street and 86th Avenue. They also planted the daffodils and alliums along 123rd Street, as well as the garden at 123rd Street and Woodland Trail.

Palos Park resident, Judee Hansen of Hansen's Landscape donates time and materials to maintain the Village's park area across from The Plush Horse by cleaning and adding fresh mulch.

Thank you to all the volunteers who keep Palos Park clean, green and beautiful!

One of the qualities of life in Palos Park is its next door proximity to the Palos Forest Preserve District of Cook County. Encompassing nearly 14,000-acres, counting the contiguous Sag Valley Division, full of woodlands, prairies, ravines and nearly 100 lakes, ponds and sloughs, multitudes of wildflowers, wildlife and 51 miles of trails.

The Cal-Sag Trail is a multi-use path built almost entirely along the banks of the Cal-Sag Channel and Calumet River. Along 26 miles of waterway from Lemont in the west to Burnham in the east, the Cal-Sag Trail will stitch together more than 185,000 people in fourteen communities. It will connect them to regional trails, transit systems, retail areas, parks, forest preserves, marinas, nature centers, and the legacies of Big Steel, immigrant communities and the Underground Railroad.
