National Voter Registration Day

Shields Township is participating in National Voter Registration Day (NVRD), a nationwide, nonpartisan effort to register thousands of voters on Tuesday, September 24th. Shields Township is pleased to be part of this community-wide effort to encourage voter registration and to answer questions about the process. Every year, millions of Americans do not vote because they’ve missed a registration deadline, don’t update their registration, or aren’t sure how to register.

Other NVRD partners are the City of Lake Forest, Dickinson Hall, Lake Bluff Public Library, Lake Forest Academy, Lake Forest High School, Lake Forest Library, Lake Forest Place, League of Women Voters, Newcomers’ Club of Lake Bluff & Lake Forest, Shields Township, The Sheridan at Green Oaks, and Woodlands Academy.

Deputy registrars at Shields Township are available from 8:30am to 4:30 pm.

To register to vote you must:
  • Be a United States citizen
  • Be at least 18 years of age on or before Nov. 3, 2020
  • Live in your election precinct at least 30 days immediately prior to an election
  • Not be convicted and in jail
  • Not claim the right to vote anywhere else

Two forms of identification are required to register through a deputy registrar; you will need one or more of the following:
  • Illinois driver's license
  • Car registration or proof of insurance
  • State of Illinois identification card
  • Utility or service contract service bill addressed to applicant at physical address postmarked no more than 30 days prior
  • Firearm Owner’s Identification (FOID) card
  • Personalized check or bank statement

in addition to one of the above, you may use:
  • U.S. passport
