2019 Bond Informational Meetings
City of Garland officials will host public meetings to help Garland residents learn more about the 2019 Bond Referendum proposals voters will consider in the May 4 election.

The public meetings are scheduled as follows:
  • Thursday, April 18 - 6 p.m. at Hollabaugh Recreation Center, 3925 W. Walnut St.
  • Saturday, April 20 - 2 p.m. at Garland City Hall, 200 N. Fifth St.
Each session will include a presentation and the opportunity for residents to ask questions. Learn more.
Candidates Forum April 18
The Garland Chamber of Commerce and its Legislative Affairs Committee invite you to a Candidates Forum where you can m eet Garland's candidates running for City Council and Garland ISD Board of Trustees before you cast your ballot in the General Election on May 4. 

The event will take place from 7:30 to 9 a.m. Thursday, April 18, at the Garland Chamber of Commerce, 520 N. Glenbrook Drive.  Register here .
Earth Day Celebration Rescheduled for April 20
Due to weather, GoGreenGarland's Earth Day Celebration and eco-friendly recycling competitions are rescheduled for Saturday, April 20. Join GoGreenGarland from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Garland's Recycling Center, 1426 Commerce St.
 
Experience nature through animal encounters and wildflower planting, get a flush of adrenaline at the toilet races, enjoy live music, recycle your unwanted electronics for free, shred unwanted paper, and so much more at the City's celebration! 
 
Check-in for Keep Garland Beautiful Spring Trash-Off starts at 8 a.m. across the street from the celebration at 1500 State Highway 66.

April Is Fair Housing Month
Take part in Fair Housing Month by joining Garland's Fair Housing Department for a workshop about landlord and tenant rights and responsibilities.

This free workshop will take place  from 10 a.m. to noon Tuesday, April 16, at 232 Carver St.

Garland Symphony Orchestra: April 19
The GSO spring performance features pianist Luca Sacher joined on the podium by his father and guest conductor Stefan Sacher at 7:30 p.m. Friday, April 19, at the Granville Arts Center, 300 N. Fifth St.

Books and Beyond: Recycled Science
To celebrate Earth Day, children ages 6 through 12 can use their STEAM science skills to conduct experiments using recycled items at 2 p.m. Saturday, April 20, at the Central Library, 625 Austin St.

Attendees can choose from four activities utilizing recycled materials: making a harmonica out of craft sticks; creating a lava lamp from a water bottle, food coloring and effervescent tablets; constructing a planter from cardboard tubes and grass seeds; or playing with a marble maze made from cardboard tubes.

Neighbors Helping Neighbors Day
Calling all volunteers! The Office of Neighborhood Vitality is partnering with Gatewood Neighborhood to host Neighbors Helping Neighbors Day from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, April 27 .

We'll roll up our sleeves and offer a helping hand to neighbors with minor exterior home repairs as well as community projects.  Projects may include:
  • Painting
  • Landscaping
  • Fence repairs
  • Minor home repairs
  • Community cleanup
  • Neighborhood projects & more!

City Holiday Closures: Sunday, April 21
In observance of the Easter holiday, all City of Garland libraries will be closed Sunday, April 21.

Apply to Serve on North Texas Municipal Water District Board
The City Council is accepting applications for a Garland representative to the Board of Directors of the North Texas Municipal Water District. The term starts June 1 and runs through May 31, 2021. To qualify for the position, an applicant must reside in Garland and own taxable property. Applications will be accepted from April 3 through May 3 and should include a letter of interest and a r ésum é. Submit applications to Ren é Dowl, City Secretary, by email to RDowl@GarlandTX.gov or by U.S. Postal Service to City Hall, 200 N. Fifth St., Garland 75040.

May 4 General Election Information
Garland voters will have many items to consider in the May 4 General Election. Voters will elect a mayor and City Council representatives for districts 3, 6, 7 and 8. Voters also will consider eight bond propositions. For more information about City elections, visit the City Secretary's web page. Garland Youth Council Accepting Applications Through June 9
Interested Garland residents who will be in grades 9-12 during the 2018-19 school year are eligible to apply to serve on the Garland Youth Council.  Learn more and download an application at GarlandYouthCouncil.org .
