Spotlight: Right to a Fair Trial
Right to a Fair Trial: International Human Rights, Extrajudicial Killings, and Demilitarizing the Police
Tuesday, July 20th, from 3 pm - 4:30 pm EDT

The Unitarian Universalist Association Office at the United Nations presents a virtual panel on International Human Rights, Extrajudicial Killings, and Demilitarizing the Police.

Police militarization and extrajudicial killings around the world are a rising threat to international human rights. Our panelists will offer different perspectives on this alarming global trend, and how we can aim to change course towards law enforcement practices and bodies that respect the rights and freedoms of their citizenries — protecting and serving, instead of hurting and intimidating.

To best support the graduate and undergraduate undocumented and DACAmented student community at the University of Michigan, the Student Community of Progresive Empowerment (SCOPE), is hosting its annual fundraiser. SCOPE is a student-led and student-run organization at the University of Michigan that supports, connects, and empowers undocumented and DACA students at the university. Unfortunately, undocumented students and their families do not have access to federal or state relief funds. In addition, there are few financial resources available to undocumented students, and the few resources that are available are quickly exhausted. Our students and their families continue to experience financial insecurity and are in urgent need of assistance.

SCOPE is aiming to raise $10,000 to support undocumented students cover tuition, housing costs, food, transportation, DACA renewal fees, medical expenses along with other expenses not covered by university aid. 100% of the proceeds go directly to undocumented and DACA students at the University of Michigan
