Helpful information from Westchester County
Simple things you can do around your home to prevent the spread of Coronavirus
Westchester County Government has created a video for Westchester County's Spanish-speaking residents about the Coronavirus, or COVID-19, as well as simple things people can do to protect themselves and prevent the spread of illness. Watch the Video
HERE
The information included in the video is provided by the Centers for Disease Control (CDC). The guidelines are as follows:
- Stay at home.
- Practice social distancing.
- Wash hands for approximately 20 seconds using soap and water. If these two items are not available, use an alcohol-based hand sanitizer.
- Clean and sanitize objects and surfaces with bleach.
- Cover your mouth and nose with a tissue when you cough or sneeze. Put your used tissue in a waste basket. If you don't have a tissue, cough or sneeze into your upper sleeve, not your hands. Remember to wash your hands after coughing.
- Avoid touching your eyes, nose or mouth.
- Stay away from people who are sick.
- The elderly and those with chronic illnesses should stay at home and practice social distancing. Do not risk your health by going out.
A vaccine against the Coronavirus does not currently exist. To protect yourself and your family, continue following these guidelines.
For more information in Spanish, log on to the CDC website or call 2-1-1

What is the Village of Ossining doing?
The Village of Ossining is paying close attention to the situation in New York, the country, and around the world. We are closely collaborating, planning, and coordinating with the Town of Ossining and local non-profits.
Staff is regularly participating in conference calls with Westchester County and the State of New York to receive regular updates from both agencies.
We are working in conjunction with Feeding Westchester to set up mobile food pantries for various days and times in walkable areas in the Village to distribute bags of food to our neighbors in need. Our Community Center has been converted into a hub for staff to pack what is to be distributed.
|
|
What can you do?
As many of you know, our local food pantries and non-profits have been coming together to ensure our community does not go hungry. We can’t thank these organizations enough for all their help. Below you will find links to our local non-profits that have been working in partnership with the Village of Ossining to distribute food to people who need it. If you would like to provide donations or volunteer support we encourage you to do so*.
These efforts will continue through this COVID-19 pandemic and thereafter. We are proud to say that many of our local restaurants are also taking donations toward providing meals to those in the community that cannot leave their homes. We will be including this information in a section of our
Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) web page
.
Please send emails to
webblast@villageofossining.org
if you know of any other Ossining based agencies that are providing food during this time so that we can add them to this list.
We appreciate your commitment to our community.

Tips for a productive workday while working remotely
Working from home is an important part of slowing the spread of coronavirus (COVID-19) and “flattening the curve” in our community. It is important to join together to continue the important work we do in our careers. Here are some helpful tips to make working remotely work for you.
Have a routine for yourself
Creating a schedule for yourself will help you maintain a sense of normalcy while working remotely.
- Prepare for the day: Set your alarm each day and make time to exercise, shower, get dressed and be ready to start your day.
- Schedule your work time: Make sure to set a schedule for yourself so, your team knows when you’ll be available and you know when it’s time to log off for the day. It’s easy to work overtime while remote.
- Connect with your team: Stay connected with your team and continue to cultivate relationships. Stay connected through things like instant messages, email or phone calls and act as a support system for each other. Communication is key while working from home.
Create a productive work space: Set up a home office
It is important to create a space where you can work without distraction. This space should have a comfortable place to sit or stand, with a table or desk, and a power outlet. Don’t forget that good lighting is also important.
Make sure you have the technology you need
- A computer or laptop is a start, but many people find that for long periods of work, even with the convenience of a laptop, it is beneficial to have a full-size keyboard, mouse, and a second screen if possible.
- Have the right applications installed on your computer and make sure that they work from your home.
- Invest in good internet access if you can. This will make connecting to your work network that much easier.
Practice self-care
It’s hard to take care of others without taking care of yourself first. Here are some simple self-care tips:
- Stand up and stretch every hour.
- Get outside during the workday. If you have a meeting that doesn’t require a computer, take it as you walk.
- Use what would typically be your morning commute time to get some exercise. This will help prepare your mind and body for a productive day.
- Use your usual evening commute time to help yourself wind down from your day and to keep you from working into the night regularly.
- Keep a positive attitude. While working at home can feel isolating, try to appreciate some of the benefits of remote work, including no commute and more free time with your family.
Working from home can be difficult, but following some of these tips can help you reduce stress while working remotely and help you be more productive in your new work setting.
