Upcoming Service
"The Serenity Prayer, Part 1"
Rev. Ed Brock
June 7, 2020
10:45 a.m.
The Serenity Prayer transcends the boundaries of between religious groups and even the boundary between religious and nonreligious groups. It is universal in appeal because it touches on challenges found in human experience across cultures. This Sunday, and for the next two Sundays after that, I will explore the value and meaning of the Serenity Prayer. My comments will be based on a book I wrote about the Serenity Prayer. My book will be on sale to members and friends of the congregation. Half of the purchase price of the book will go to UUCH.
I look forward to exploring this prayer with you over the next three weeks.

This Sunday in Children and Youth Religious Education (CYRE)
LEGOs, and friendship, and fun, oh my!
Join us this Sunday from 3-4 p.m. to kick-off a CYRE summer like no other. UUCH Summer Religious Education is a fun and creative summer series for children and youth.
Each week in June, July, and August at 3 p.m., the CYRE program will host virtual gatherings with innovative activities and spiritual meaning. These activities are geared towards ages 4-12, though youth will enjoy them, too! Every other week we will use a UU LEGO curriculum to piece together our UU Sources. While alternating weeks, we will maintain our tradition of adult congregants sharing their talents and interests with the kids.
If you have a skill to share virtually or if you'd just like to help, please sign up HERE. More information is included on the sign-up page. We greatly appreciate you!
In addition, every other week beginning June 14, CYRE will be followed by a Junior/Senior High YOUUTH Group meetup from 4:30 - 6:00 p.m.
More details and a summer schedule can be found on our CYRE Facebook page and will be emailed to registered families.
If you are interested in joining us, but you're not registered in the CYRE program, send an email to
DRE Erin Reid
. You can also
to register your children and youth. We'd love to include you in our joyful and welcoming community of all ages.
Sincerely,
Harper Goodman
Children and Youth Religious Education Assistant

Dear Members and Friends of UUCH,
As we navigate these unprecedented times together, it is important that we continue to find space to be together in beloved community. Due to the ongoing threat posed by COVID-19, the UUCH Board recommends that we continue following guidance issued by the UUA and reputable health agencies such as the CDC.
The UUA currently recommends that congregations continue to meet virtually, rather than in-person, through May 2021. This applies to all church activities, including worship services, religious education, committee meetings, small group meetings, and other activities central to church life.
The UUCH Board supports this recommendation, and we plan to continue following UUA guidelines and other best practices regarding reopening. We are actively monitoring the events of our world and our local community on a daily basis, and we will continue monitoring this situation as the year goes on. The UUCH Board, Rev. Ed, and Rev. Jaimie are working closely together to make the best decisions to support the health and safety of our congregation, and we appreciate all that you are doing to help. Thank your for continuing to support UUCH and doing the important work of our church during these unique and trying times.
We are all in this together, and once we are are able to start meeting in person again, we are confident that we will emerge strong, connected, and ready to face our exciting future together.
Yours in community,
John Schulz UUCH Board President

I'm
sitting close to the gulf beach in Fort Morgan listening to the choir of white caps sing as a storm churns southeast of here. I can hear the music they create together as they each add their voice.
As we begin our journey into this month of embracing and broadening our understanding of compassion, I'm grateful for the grace of our Unitarian Universalist congregation and choir. I
know that whatever hymn we sing, whatever song we choose, our
compassion for each other joins our voices into one greater song, our individual hearts into one heart.

To give a plate offering to UUCH from your mobile device, text the amount (without dollar sign) to 833-559-0257, and follow the instructions.
Like our other online and mobile giving options, this is through Vanco, is secure, and has a good option for "plate" donations.
Text giving is by debit or credit card only. To give from your bank account, you can still use the UUCH website or the GivePlus+ mobile app.

Using Zoom at work? Put those skills to good use!
As we adapt to our new digital form of communion, the Technology Committee is looking for volunteers to help facilitate our congregational Zoom meetings on Sunday mornings. Training will be provided, though some experience and familiarity with Zoom or other web-meeting platforms is desired.

Little Food Pantry Needs You
The outdoor food pantry is being heavily used, with an estimated 12 visitors per day, both families and homeless individuals. YOU can help keep it stocked by signing up on the SignUp Genius.
Items to consider buying include the following:
c
anned meats, cereals, mac and cheese, pasta, peanut butter and jelly, ravioli, energy bars, fruit cups/cans, pasta and alfredo sauce, soups, packets of dried potatoes, beef stew, canned milk, instant ramen, baby wipes, peanuts, canned veggies, beanie weanies, oatmeal, onions, bananas, potatoes, etc.
Please
contact the church office if you would like to schedule a drop-off and request assistance. Or feel free to stop by and stock the pantry on your own. It would help if you checked the SignUp Genius and maybe come on off-days. There is a black storage box located just outside the door in which you can place extra pantry supplies. Thanks to everyone who has helped keep the pantry stocked for our hungry neighbors.

"Side With Love" and protect yourself and others. We have found a way to have our yellow social justice slogan on a protective, cloth face mask. We thought some of you might like to have one. If you are interested in placing an order, email the church office. We will be selling them at cost, which will be $8.00 each. We will place the first order on June 12, so notify us by then. Remind the world wherever you go that you Side With Love.

Cooking in Hard Times
This week we share tips from
The Kaffeeklatsch to help make your favorite cup of coffee even more enjoyable:
1. Start with clean equipment and use fresh cold water, preferably filtered or naturally soft water.
2. Measure water and coffee carefully. Try 1-2 tablespoons of coffee for each 6 ounces of water, and adjust for the strength that you enjoy.
3. Buy fresh, roasted coffee at your favorite specialty coffee store. Grind your coffee beans each time you brew. If you don't have a grinder, buy ground coffee in small amounts to keep it fresh. Store coffee in an airtight container at room temperature for 7-10 days or in the freezer for 1-2 months for longer-term storage.
4. Use a drip or immersion method (French press) for brewed coffee.
5. Brewing time should be about 4 minutes, with water at 190-195 degrees F.
6. After brewing, keep coffee hot in a thermal carafe. Keep your coffee-making equipment and thermal carafe clean and free of oil (which can taste rancid) and calcium deposits.
7. Have fun exploring different types of coffee!
Would you like to share a favorite recipe with the UUCH congregation? Contact Hospitality co-chairs Kathryn Heath and Jessica Schulz here.
