Earlier this month, the Biden Administration released the general outline of their proposed 2022 federal budget. This initial budget continues historic funding into community schools and low-income districts. Title I schools are slated to receive $36.5B, an increase of $20B for high poverty students. Increased investments as such will ensure that low-income students will receive high quality education and enrichment to continue work to close the achievement gap.
COVID-19 has created a drop in quality of life for America’s students, especially those from low-income communities. In an effort to get students back on the right track physically and mentally, the Biden Administration has included community schools in this initial request with an allocation of $430M. If approved, this funding would help support schools in providing wrap-around services that care for the whole child.
Not included in this general budget outline are discretionary funds for FY22, including allocations to 21st Century Community Learning Centers.
