Getting to Know Jack Fitch
Player Name: Jack Fitch
College Commitment: University of Vermont
High School: Christ School
Position: Midfield
Graduating Class: 2020

What other schools did you consider?
Coast Guard Academy, Mercer, Lynchburg and Gettysburg.
How did the school you chose separate itself from the others you considered?
I was immediately blown away by the campus and its proximity to Burlington and Lake Champlain. The mountains and the town reminded me a lot of where I currently live, (Boone, NC) except bigger. The size, location, and variety of majors was exactly what I was looking for in a school and program.

How would you describe your recruiting process overall?
My process was long and stressful at times, but I was extremely fortunate because it is a unique experience that only happens once. I couldn't have done it without my parents and their endless support or my coaches and teammates who pushed me to be the best version of myself as a student-athlete.

What was your favorite part of the recruiting process?
Receiving interest across all three divisions in the Summer going into my senior year was a great feeling. It showed me that all my hard work and dedication was finally paying off. Eventually committing to Vermont this past September was my favorite part. I completed the process and finally knew where I was going to attend college!

What opportunities and information assisted you during your recruiting process?
Getting to know Coach Flanagan and his staff this past Summer was extremely beneficial. They provided great insight and direction on how to handle my final few months of deciding on a school. I am thankful to have been exposed to great coaching and intelligent individuals who have helped dozens of athletes navigate this process before me.

Did you feel like you had support from the Team 24/7 Staff during your process? If so, how?
Most Definitely. As soon as I met the staff and Coach Flanagan following the merger, they tirelessly coached me at practice and every single game of each tournament over the Summer. I appreciated having additional people being hard on me and paying close attention to detail on how I could elevate my game.

What individual or showcase events, if any, did you find the most beneficial during your process?
There were definitely a couple prospect days and showcases such as the ODAC prospect day and the Prep Lax Showcase in Greenwich, CT that I enjoyed. I gained exposure there, however, I felt far more comfortable showcasing myself during tournaments because of my between the lines style of play.

What would you tell younger players or parents to help them prepare for the recruiting process?
Understand that a strong work ethic goes an extremely long way. Don't get so wrapped up in the process that you forget to have fun playing the game or you will miss great moments with your teammates. When you are in the process, ask the tough and direct questions; really find out where you stand at each of your potential schools.

Lastly, don't feel the need to rush your commitment. You can be a completely different player from September 1 of your Junior year to September 1 of your Senior year.
Coach Flanagan on Jack
I'll always remember our first day on the field with Jack. We honestly didn't know much about him having never worked with him before but myself and the other coaches looked at each other pretty quickly and all commented on his potential. If we could put him in the right places, we knew that he was going to be successful.
As we started to work with Jack more and more, we learned that not only did he have a ton of athletic potential but he was a great kid and tough as nails. He comes from a military background and you can quickly tell once you meet him. He is a "yes sir, no sir" young man that will do whatever the team needs. When you combine what he can do athletically with that type of attitude, he is a perfect fit as a two-way midfielder at the collegiate level.

Once we got to know him, we felt as coaches like this was the type of kid that we could really make a difference for in the recruiting process. He was drawing interest coming in to the Summer but we thought he could play at an even higher level. The first thing we wanted to do was make sure we were using him in the right way. By getting him on the wings of face-offs and on defense, we were going to allow him to show his athleticism in getting up and down the field. He was making plays on offense but he stands out a ton in the middle of the field so we had to make sure he had opportunities to do that. The next thing was raising awareness about what he can do. We started reaching out to coaches and telling them his story. We wanted to make sure that everyone knew what type of kid he was off the field, what type of teammate he was and what type of student he was. We also had to make sure that coaches were looking at him the correct way. If you don't know anything about him and you show up to a field looking for a midfielder that is going to score 3-4 goals, he isn't your guy. If you know him and you come to the field looking for a guy who is going take wings, play defense and get up and down the field while giving you 1-2 goals, 1-2 assists and 3-4 ground balls, he is the perfect fit.

I think he is just starting to scratch the surface of his potential and cannot wait to see what type of player he is in 2-3 years after he gets in to a D1 weight room and practice environment every day. He has all the potential in the world combined with the right attitude and approach.
