Art intrigues people.

It is the pleasure of line, shape, color, the representation of things familiar, the movement and sound of these elements working together. It is also the "how", the process, the engineering of a piece that intrigues.

This pleasure and a desire to engineer something have always drawn me to painting as an art form. When I retired, I returned to a passion of my youth for pastels and oils. A second motivation to hone my skills in these media came from my first winter visit in 2006 to Pawleys Is-land. As a child I spent summers in Maine on the island where my dad was raised. I loved the sea and all related to it. I had retired, however, to West Virginia with its rugged hills and beautiful forest and streams. That winter I fell in love all over again with the sea at Pawleys and the landscapes of the Low Country.

My current work is primarily in portraits and landscapes with some still life. In fact, I tend to see everything as a portrait. Painters whose col-or, themes, composition, capturing of light particularly intrigue me are Sargent, Turner , Homer, Cassat, and Vermeer.

I am an owner/artist at The Island Art Gallery in Pawleys Island, SC. Enjoy!
