This Sunday marked the beginning of our Pledge Drive.  We are entering a few weeks when we will be counting our blessings and being mindful of the needs of others.  We will contemplate experiences we have had with giving and how they have made us feel.  We will pray for guidance and support in making our pledges for the coming year at Holy Nativity.

The theme of this year's campaign is "Faith-Filled Generosity."  The focus is anchored in a key element of our Parish's mission statement: "to share God's bounty through outreach." The Stewardship Committee consulted with the Rector and the Treasurer.  We made a review of the results of last's year campaign and the current challenges in our community as a result of COVID-19 pandemic to determine the financial goals and the level of participation. The dollar goal is $130,000 and unit goal is 40 pledges. This represents a 10% increase from last year's accomplishment. The purposes of seeking increased funds will be to stabilize our operating budget and enhance our outreach budget.

REMEMBERING ALL THE SAINTS
OF GOD -- NOV 1, 2020

On All Saint's, we recall all of those saints from our church's past and remind ourselves that we, too, are a part of this "great company of saints."  It is our tradition to remember loved ones who have died as a part of this observance.  It is a feast day; we use white and ring our church bells to signify resurrection and joy. We invite you to submit the name(s) of those you wish to remember to our parish administrator, Puna Coldwell, at hncparish@gmail.com by October 27.  We will read each of the names aloud on Nov. 1.

BISHOP'S ADDRESS TO DIOCESAN CONVENTION
Because we are unable to meet in-person for the Diocesan Annual Meeting of Convention on Sat, Oct 24, Bishop Bob made a recording of his sermon beforehand so that anyone in our congregations can view it. Here is the link:

This year, our 8th annual Great Pumpkin Festival has been re-imagined - we present 2020's Flick-or-Treat @ TheGreat Pumpkin Drive-In over two long weekends (October 22-25 and October 28 - November 1).  Our event will feature:
  • Four different family-friendly Halloween movies over the course of the event (2 movies a night)
  • Trick-or-treat bags filled with Halloween goodies and coupons from local sponsors
  • An opportunity to dress up for Halloween and have a socially-distant family photo taken (in costume!)
  • Socially distant costume contests with prizes
  • Dinner and a Movie, as we are partnering with a local small business to provide gourmet bentos
This event is open to the public (admission only through pre-paid online ticketing) and will feature 2 family-friendly movies every night.  We will screen "How to Train Your Dragon" and "The Greatest Showman" the first weekend, and "The Peanuts Movie" and "The Princess Bride" the second weekend.
We take the safety of our school community, our neighborhood and our attendees seriously.  Face masks and social distancing are required when moving outside of vehicles.
Our events begin at 5:30pm and feature movies projected on the big screen, with audio streamed through FM radio.
This event is a benefit for Holy Nativity School - please support our little school in the valley, and purchase your tickets today! (Tickets available through the website: holynativityschool.org)
CHRISTIAN FORMATION OPPORTUNTIES IN NOVEMBER & DECEMBER:

November:  Rev. Libby and Juditha Murashige, a longtime member and leader of the Thursday afternoon prayer group at Holy Nativity, will offer a short series introducing different methods of contemplative prayer.  We will meet on three Wednesday evenings, November 4, 11, and 18, from 7-8pm on Zoom.  This series aims to serve those who have not experienced the many, ancient forms of contemplative prayer before, but are interested to learn more about it.  We will explore Ignatian prayer, Centering prayer, and learn Brother Lawrence's "Practice of the Presence of God," which an be used anytime, anywhere!  All are welcome to join us for one or more of the sessions.  The Zoom link will be on the front page of the Holy Nativity website, as it has been for our other fall offerings.  If you have any questions, please contact Rev. Libby at hncrector@gmail.com

December:  Ed Moore will offer a short series, lifting up Advent themes in works of poetry and short fiction.

FOR AN ELECTION
Almighty God, to whom we must account for all our powers and privileges:  Guide the people of the United States in the election of officials and representatives; that, by faithful administration and wise laws, the rights of all may be protected and our nation be enabled to fulfill your purposes; through Jesus Christ, our Lord. Amen.
