Greetings!
Quite a lot has happened since our last newsletter! The most important news is, of course, the rise of COVID-19 and the impact it's now having on us here in the United States.
One of the many impacts of the coronavirus pandemic is that our 2020 Pig Dinner, currently slated for April 18th, will be rescheduled
. You'll learn more here or from the undergraduates once a new date is known.
Yes, these are challenging times, but we are committed to continuing our work to support the undergraduate brothers of Theta Tau. In fact, we have some exciting progress to report on the design and planning of our new home:
- The design team was authorized to proceed with design development phase (DD Phase).
- The existing site was surveyed in December 2019. Variance was submitted to Cookeville Board of Zoning Appeals and was reviewed and approved at their March 12, 2020 meeting.
- The Architect is working on floor plans and building elevations. Other design team members - civil, structural, mechanical, electrical and plumbing - are providing input to the Architect, and we anticipate preliminary plans and elevations in the next 4-6 weeks.
- A preliminary construction cost will be prepared when Architect completes the design development phase. Creation of construction documents will begin thereafter.
On the subject of the construction cost estimate, Benjamin Franklin was right to say that “a penny saved is a penny earned.” If you have the ability to help us minimize our costs by providing material or services at a "brotherhood" rate, we would be delighted to hear from you.
