On Campus
Preparing for remote learning

This week, Mr. Handmaker recorded a video message to parents and students. Click here or on the picture below for the message:
Parents pick up materials on Distribution Day
Parents in their cars made their way along Craig Place in front of the main campus and Valero Court at the Little School as if it were morning drop-off or afternoon pickup, but instead continued onto the school grounds to pick up boxes with the items that their children would need to transition to distance learning in their classes.

How to navigate new demands in the time of coronavirus

From Mr. Handmaker:

Dear Parents,

As parents learn how to navigate this new world of working from home while their children are attending classes at home, I want to recommend a podcast. Carly Andrews, the Head of the Baker Demonstration School in Evanston, IL, is a dear friend and colleague. She and Jordan Grumet, a physician with whom she works, have a podcast on “Parenting Through the Coronavirus” that contains helpful suggestions on ways to balance the competing demands parents may be feeling now.

Sip Snack Give Back postponed
Our school-wide adult social and fundraiser will take place next fall.

Thank you to our co-chairs Lauren Ciminello and Victoria Shum and to our sponsors for helping exceed our sponsorship goal thus far. It could not have happened without the support of our amazing Keystone community.

Our Director of Development and Alumni Relations, Adriana Villafranca, will personally reach out to all sponsors, auction donors, and those who have already purchased tickets.

Keystone part of Big Give Emergency Relief fundraiser
In this unprecedented time, many of you have asked how you can help. All members of the faculty and staff have been working with the goal of helping our students be successful despite the unforeseen circumstances of COVID-19.

If you are in position to give back at this time, please consider honoring all of Keystone’s faculty and staff with a generous gift that is most comfortable for you. Your support will go towards Keystone’s operating budget and the school's commitment to academic excellence in this fluid and rapidly-changing situation.

Earlier this month, they placed second in the Alamo Regional Robotics championship, out of 400 teams. They also won a Judges award for teamwork, for including a portion of a presentation via video for a teammate who couldn't participate in person.

The team members: Aaron, Lucia, Cristiano, Ameen, Raymond, Sofia, Sarah, Ryan, Max and Selamir.

“The greatness of a community is most accurately measured by the compassionate actions of its members.”

This week, we prepared Keystone, a school with an admirably close-knit community, to move into the world of distance learning. We held old-fashioned face-to-face meetings and we engaged in conversations via Microsoft Teams. We created lesson plans for asynchronous classes, and learned how to upload content for classes. We held upper school class meetings virtually, and we readied ourselves to live online. Starting Monday, we will move into territory that is entirely new for us; we didn’t choose to move to distance learning but we steeled ourselves to face this new challenge knowing that like any adventure, there will be surprises and lessons learned along the way.

Important Events and Notes
No decision on summer programs

We had planned to open up registration for summer programs this week, and we still hope to have  summer  camps occur at their usual time. However, like so much else, this depends on ever-changing circumstances. For that reason, we are holding off on registration for a little longer. We will make an announcement within the next couple of weeks.
