"The Learning Technology Center launched in 1995 with the purpose of building statewide capacity for educational change through technology-related professional learning, programs, initiatives, and support for all K-12 school districts in Illinois.

The Learning Technology Center initiatives focus on seven critical areas: digital learning support, technical support, professional learning, purchasing, connectivity, data and cybersecurity, and community engagement. Civic Media Wednesdays
Columbia College Chicago is hosting a workshop series open to the public featuring experts in various fields who will speak about how to inspire civic engagement, how to assess a civic media project, and how to design one for a diverse audience. The inaugural symposium on Social Justice & Media will convene for a free full-day discussion at Emerson College in Boston on February 28 to explore the intersection of social justice and media as it relates to community and pedagogy in daily life. The New York State Association of Independent Schools (NYSAIS) is holding a media literacy workshop at Winston Preparatory School in New York City on April 17. This event for elementary school teachers, and middle and high school humanities teachers will define what media literacy is and how teachers can implement these lessons in the classroom. U.S. Media Literacy Report
Media Literacy Now recently completed their U.S. Media Literacy Report 2020, a state-by-state progress report for media literacy education laws in K-12 schools. The report outlines both legislative successes and areas for improvement as well as recommendations to ensure that media literacy is an active part of every student’s education. [ learn more ]

Resources List
Media Literacy Now has a new media literacy resources list for teachers, parents and students. The various resources can also be sorted by topic — including news literacy, digital citizenship, gender and health — and by community-based resources in some states. [ learn more]
News and Media Literacy Resource Center
Common Sense Education launched their News and Media Literacy Resource Center. These resources for K-12 educators have been split into three collections: news literacy, media literacy, and social and cultural literacy. Each collection offers lessons, articles, videos, research, and more. [ learn more ]
Mini Media Literacy Library
Designed for the high school classroom, each mini-lesson in iCivics' Media Literacy Library Unit includes a content reading, a news literacy highlight, and a one-page news literacy activity. Topics focus on the powers of the executive, legislative, and judicial branches of the U.S. government. [ learn more ]

CFS: 2020 "What's Your Story?"
Trend Micro invites individuals ages 13 and older who are enrolled in school (K-12, college, university, film school), and school representatives to submit an entry for the 2020 "What's Your Story?" video competition. Entrants are asked to create a two minute video which answers the question, "If the internet disappeared, what would your life be like?" The grand prize is $10,000.

Masters in Civic Media
Columbia College Chicago’s MA in Civic Media is now open for applications. This degree equips students with a broad range of media skills so they can stimulate community action and transform cities, and teaches them to use media platforms to meaningfully connect with audiences. Fighting Misinformation Course
