Hunterdon Freeholders:
Governor Must Re-open Region
Before It Is Too Late
|
|
Citing the minimal number of new daily community spread COVID-19 cases in the county, over 10,000 unemployment claims from county residents, and the imminent end to the federal government’s paycheck protection program (PPP), the Hunterdon County Freeholders, during its June 2
nd
meeting, called for Governor Phil Murphy to fully re-open the economy in the county and northwest New Jersey region, before it is too late.
Freeholder Board Deputy Director Sue Soloway, who is the Health Department liaison, stated “With a daily average increase of community spread virus at just four cases, the curve has not only been flattened, it is in a steep decline. It is time to open up all of our businesses, put people back to work, and start the economy on an upward projection again.”

Van Doren To AG:
Reverse Your Hold On
Library Pick Up Programs
|
|
The New Jersey Attorney General’s decision to put a hold on libraries providing a ‘no contact materials pick up program’ should immediately be reversed, because it is a critical service for our residents who have been isolated in their homes,
Hunterdon County Freeholder Board Director Shaun C. Van Doren wrote in a letter to Governor Phil Murphy.
Van Doren said, “Library buildings are closed to the public by executive order, but the public should not be cut off from books and other materials. The Hunterdon County Library Director and staff have devised a creative way to provide these services while maintaining adherence to social distancing rules.”

Senior Center Programs
Now Virtual
|
|
The Hunterdon County Senior Center is now offering many programs for seniors, via the web platform Zoom, in place of programming at the Gauntt Place building, which is closed due to the Governor’s executive orders limiting public gatherings.
Freeholder Board Deputy Director Sue Soloway, the Senior Center liaison, stated, “This web platform programming is part of the County’s effort to continue to keep current senior participants involved and safe. The programs are being offered online and are easily accessed with a home computer.”
Zoom sessions are available for seniors who participated in programs before the suspension of activities at the Senior Center, as waivers and registrations forms were required to be completed prior to participation in any class, whether in person or online.
