From the Report of the Raynham School Committee,
April 1, 1858:
There were 8 school districts educating a total of 321 students. Each district operated one classroom educating children between the ages of 5 to 15. The school year was divided between a summer term and a winter term. Either term could last between 2 and 3 1/2 months, depending on the weather.
During the winter term in district 1, it was noted that "average attendance was seriously decreased by sickness..." which was attributed, in part, to the condition of the schoolhouse.

Rabies Clinic
Saturday, April 6, 2019
The Raynham Board of Health will sponsor a Rabies Clinic on Saturday, April 6, 2019
from 12:00 Noon to 2:00 p.m.
behind the Raynham Fire Station located at 37 Orchard Street.
The law requires that all cats and dogs over 3 months of age be vaccinated for rabies. To receive a shot, dogs must be leashed and cats must be in a carrier.
Vaccinations are administered
by the Raynham Veterinary Hospital personnel at a cost of $15.00 with all proceeds going to Raynham Library.

The Center for the Advancement of STEM Education at Bridgewater State University
For Students:
Greenlight for Girls is an international organization that inspires girls of all ages and backgrounds to pursue STEM subjects by introducing them to the world of science in fun and exciting ways. We welcome 150 girls (age 11-15) from local communities to join us for an exciting day filled with hands-on science & technology workshops guided by STEM role model professionals, BSU faculty and staff. The event will take place on April 6, 2019.

Summer Science Academy for Students Entering Grades 4-12
The Summer Science Academy offers one-week science classes for students grades 4-12. This unique program allows students to work as scientists and is designed to inspire students about science while providing them with the foundations necessary for further scientific exploration.
Summer Science Academy students are immersed in science courses and conduct hands-on investigations in their selected class. Students in the middle school classes will also participate in extracurricular science activities. All classes focus on the importance of science communication as students lead presentations on the last day of class.

For Parents: Development of Multiplication and Division from Basic Facts to Multi-Digit (Grades 3-5)
From basic facts to long division, calculation skills do not happen overnight. Students must have a deep understanding of our number system to build upon each growing skill. Ultimately, we want students to be the most efficient thinkers possible. Learn about some of the skills students must master along the way to help them truly understand the traditional procedures many of us learned years ago. The workshop will be held at the Bridgewater Campus on April 10, 2019 from 5:30-7:30 PM.

The Raynham Reads: One Book— One Community
April 10
The Raynham Reads: One Book -- One Community is under way with its tenth edition: ”a Little Mystery". This year’s book selection is Trust Me by well-known author and WHDH Boston investigative reporter, Hank Phillippi Ryan. The book is available at local libraries and in bookstores. A variety of events are planned for adults and children for the spring months. Included are a puppy naming contest, town scavenger hunt, elementary school mystery readings/ contest and a special author visit/talk with Hank Phillippi Ryan on April 10th. GFWC Taunton and Raynham Junior Woman's Club .Club members celebrated March as Women's History Month by introducing a short biography on Gerda Lerner, known as the 'Mother' of Women's History Month., presented by Nancy Brown, Women's History and Resource chairman, and welcomed guest speaker Mary Njeri to speak about her life in Kenya before coming to the United States. (Pictured with Vice President Robin Gendron )
In honor of Dr. Seuss's 115th birthday, member Nancy Brown ,AKA The Cat in the Hat, along with education chairwoman Nancy Martin, visited Triumph Head Start in Taunton. The Cat in the Hat story was read to a crowd of over 100 preschoolers., and each child was given a coloring page and hat. The Taunton and Raynham Junior Woman's Club also donated several Dr. Seuss books along with a stuffed Cat in the Hat to the school. Members actively volunteer in the community and also hold fundraisers to provide scholarships to local students and to contribute to local charities. In addition to their volunteer work they also offer other activities where members can socialize with each other strengthening the bond of friendship and sisterhood. Several members recently attended an 80th Anniversary viewing of the iconic film Gone With the Wind. Women 18 or older interested in the club may contact Joyce at 508 824-3382 or go to

Raising Children:
We all have different philosophies on what is important to pass on to the next generation. Usually solid ethics, a sense of community and family, the ability to support themselves and live a fulfilled life are on the top of the list.
It's hard work, parenting, and sometimes we are challenged to answer questions we never thought about.
Now that my youngest of 4 is in his second year of college; my most important reflection is I have no regrets in choosing to spend more time with them over earning more money.
We had spring days walking to the playground. We picnicked under an oak reading the newest Harry Potter. We delivered lunches to the elderly, picked up trash in the neighborhood, we made jelly and kites. I now see the impact setting these priorities had on them: they have grown to be independent creative thinkers who care about their world.
Whatever your parenting and life choices, I would encourage you to take time for yourself to decide what is important to you. What kind of life do you want your children to live? What kind of world would you like to see created? Because these are the questions we are answering when we raise children, whether we think about it or not.

Most of all, enjoy them, not a day goes by that I don't wish that I could go back under that oak tree with them. ~ Jacquie
