March 12th, 2020

Dear Parents / Guardians,

First and foremost, we want to thank everyone for your patience as we navigate the ever-evolving COVID-19 situation

We are aware that there are rumours circulating about two students and staff who have been screened for COVID-19. We wish to state that this is categorically untrue. These two students were screened for influenza and are currently at home recuperating. No staff members have been screened for COVID-19.

As of today, we are implementing the following policies:
  • We have set up a new email, [email protected], for this situation
  • Please notify Lorri Lewis at Reception immediately by calling 295-6153 and send an email to [email protected] with COVID-19 in the subject line, if at any time:
    • You or a member of your family / household has been tested for COVID-19
    • You or a member of your family / household has come in contact with someone who has been diagnosed with COVID-19 or who is in quarantine due to exposure.
  • No staff members or students will be allowed to return to school if they, or a member of their household, have been screened for COVID-19 until we have a doctor's note stating they are COVID-19 free. This is of utmost importance to keep our school community safe.
  • If your child is off school due to any other illness, parents are to communicate their child's symptoms via email to [email protected] and to the Form Teacher.
We have implemented extra hygiene measures at school which include:
  • Proper hand-washing posters in all bathrooms and reiteration of good hand-washing protocol to all students and staff.
  • Increased sanitising of classrooms, including doorknobs and surfaces throughout the School.
  • Mandating that all students / staff stay home, if they are unwell.
  • Practicing social distancing and reducing physical contact (including hand-shaking, hugging, high-fiving etc.).
  • Following good hygiene protocol by avoiding touching your eyes, nose, and mouth with unwashed hands.
BHS strongly discourages families, faculty, and staff from travelling to any countries identified as a Level 2 or 3 risk by the CDC. You can see the CDC recommendations for travel  HERE We reserve the right to enforce a 14-day period away from school for anyone who is known to have travelled to a country identified as a Level 2 or 3 risk by the CDC. As far as other travel goes, we do request that you let us know if you, or anyone in your household, plans to travel from today until the end of April. Please fill out the form HERE with your details.

THIS LETTER was sent to us today with some tips on how to protect yourself and your loved ones . The Year 6 trip to Washington DC has been cancelled, and we are carefully considering our options with regards to large school gatherings and events. We will update you as necessary.

While BHS currently has no plans for extended closure, we realise this is an ever-changing situation that may require us to make the decision to close the school campus for an extended period of time and implement digital learning, where appropriate. We assure you that we are preparing ourselves should such a situation arise and we will share more details when necessary. We encourage you to prepare for the possibility of an extended closure by checking your internet access and assessing your childcare needs.

I will continue to share updates with you as new information becomes available or plans change. We have set up a new email for queries related to this situation. Please contact [email protected] , if you have questions about these policies and plans. As a reminder, all COVID-19 communications from BHS and additional resources are being archived on our newly created
COVID-19 Information  page  on the BHS website and

As always, my highest priority is the safety and well-being of our community. We thank you for your patience as we try to work through this unprecedented challenge.

Yours sincerely,

Linda Parker
Head of School
