Dear CCDS Families,

Thank you all for your positive messages of support and your flexibility in truly an unprecedented time. We hope today’s message finds you well.

At this time, we are joining BCOE Superintendent Mary Sakuma in announcing that CCDS and all Butte County schools will be closed through April 17, 2020, with the first day back at school being April 20, 2020.  Butte County Office of Education Press Release

This week is our spring break and our staff will be using next week to begin a transition to Distance Learning for our students. As we develop this shift, rest assured we will continue to create structures that are inclusive, supportive, and meaningful for students, while also being supportive of families who are transitioning toward a new way of learning and living in a social-distancing manner. We are asking every family to fill out this survey so we can address and technology needs.

Although this is a challenging time, we are also grateful for the culture and community we have at CCDS. We are a school that has always prioritized relationships and social-emotional learning, curiosity, student voice, and deeper learning. In this uncertain world around us, those pieces of our CCDS culture will be relied upon to connect with our students, build their curiosity, and support families.

Additionally, I wanted to note and be mindful of the stressful situation that exists all around us at this time. We will all have different capacities and different scenarios in the weeks to come. We will build learning opportunities for your students and also know that some days, your home learning will look like reading books together and watching a movie. Some days it will look much more academic and both are okay. We’re here to support you all at this time of uncertainty and change.

Please take some time to enjoy your spring break, too! I found myself getting caught up in all the “homeschooling” posts I was seeing online and had to take a minute to remember this is a break. Do what you need to do as a family, but also know that this is a well-deserved break for students and teachers. Please relieve yourself of any pressure you’re feeling from online posts about students who may be in-session and doing distance learning this week.

We are meeting as a staff (via Zoom) on Monday and will begin to transition to structures of distance learning. Your teachers will be in touch with your students next week and some very preliminary check-ins and enrichment opportunities. The following week, March 29th, you can anticipate additional structures for learning. Gearing up to provide online learning in a meaningful way is no small feat -- we thank you for your patience.

I truly want to thank you all for your patience and grace in a time of change and uncertainty. I am so grateful for our entire community and what we can now lean on now during this difficult time. I will continue to update you as we learn new details and you can look forward to hearing more from your child’s teacher next week.

Warmly,
Wendy
